Need some info here.

I found a nice 1990 Crew Cab SRW 3+3, but I really don't know anything about the bigger trucks.

I looked at it for about 45 minutes checking it all out.
Here is what it had.
Dana 60. I think it is a 4:10 ratio from the tag on the cover. The glovbox said 2.37???
Rear is a 14FF as far as I can tell. It has the removeable pinion, but the diff has ribs on it. Never seen a 14FF like that before. No idea on a locker.
Rebuilt 350 TBI.
Fixed yoke 205 with electrical speedo.
Dent in the bed in front of the drivers side tail light, and a little surface rust on the roof are the only bad things I found. OH YEAH...Stacked blocks in the rear for a 4" lift (tard)

Now here are my questions...
What tranny should be in it? TH400?? Anything bad about it?
How much should it sell for. The guy wants $5200. I would rather it be $4000.

The trans will be a TH400, real strong & the only thing bad about them is no overdrive gear. The 14 bolt housings picked up the extra ribbing around '88 so all later model axles are like that.

I originally bought my 91 3+3 for just under $5k but I had to put a lot of money in it to make it look nice.

Does the truck appear to be ex-military or civilian?

Mine was a non-CUCV Air Force truck. When I bought it, it had a 350/4L80e/205/D60/14FF/4.10's and open front and rear. I later changed to 4.56's with a Track Lock in the front and a Detroit in the rear.

I really wanna say a 90K30 should have the 4l80E especially with the electric speedo on the Tcase.

Dont quote me though.

5200 is not much more than I paid for my K5 and that already has a 60 and 14FF and a 205:doah: .

DREMU has brochures that should list the available trannys for that year I will see if I can find them.

The brochures sometimes require cleverness -- they won't expressly tell you that it's *1991* for the 4L80E, but that it's a four speed auto on both the 1/2 and 3/4+ tons.

Does seem high. I paid $1900 for my '74 sixpack... granted 2WD, 454, but ::shrug::

I don't know about the "new" body style "K" trucks but for the square body "V" series trucks '91 was the first year of the 4L80e. :wink1:

Edit: the VSS 205 started in '90.

91 was the first year of the 4l80, but thats not to say one titled as a 90 didn't slip thru with one. one way is to look and see if it has a od spot on the column shift.

didn't think to look at the column shifter.
And I did look at the tranny pan......Just not close enough to remember the shape. I know nothing aboot autos. Have never really owned one either.
I think I might pass on it though.
I still have lots to do to my truck, and if the 3+3 gets the same MPG as my current truck there is no reason for me to get it. I'll think aboot it some more, as I try to calm down from today. Ready to impart some significant injuries on someone right now:angry1::angry1::angry1:

It should get better mileage than your current truck. It is TBI and built for the road better than the current setup you have. :wink1:

TBI is not a mileage-maker. I never got better that 12mpg highway on my '91 V3500 crew (350/SM465/4.10/33s). Usually more like 8-10mpg.

Never meant that TBI is a mileage maker. I was meaning his current dd/trail rig has 39.5's/4.56's/465 tranny so this would be more street friendly. My K5 is on 39.5's w/700R4 and 4.10's. The crew has 4.56's/35's & the 4l80E. The crewgets as good as or better mileage than the K5 in town so no OD on either.
