1990 350 motor

For one, you likely aren't going to be able to take off and spin the tires with a good running stock 350 anyway.

It's takes a LOT of HP to actually get the rears to slip on dry pavement, especially with a K5 that has a huge top, interior parts, heavy tailgate, ect. A K5 is balanced VERY well and is heavy in the rear compared to a K10 shortbed.

My '81K30 with a 454 and 4.10's with 31's can't bark them, thats just normal.

As far as your thoughts on it being a dog with 35's.....and the boggers you have roughly planned, it will be an even worse dog, eat more fuel, and will be nearly worthless in the mud as you won't be able to get the tires really spinning.

Thats why I ditched the 350 and built another motor years ago...

Hmm. Well I talked to my dad yesterday and he said that it would cost me $350 for someone to replace the cat because we don't have a welder.

I'm suppose to install the fuel filter later on tonight.

I'm really stuck on what I want to do. My 350 now came with 180 hp from the factory and doesn't produce the power I want it to. Then, by adding 2 1/2 more inches by shackle flipping and getting 35" SS boggers with wider rims, I'm really afraid that this car will be even more of a dog.

What are my options really? I have about 1800 to spend on lift parts and whatever else I can to get this thing running with some power.

There is a shop here that will supply a hi-flow CAT with the install for $125.00. They did my exhaust for me on my blazer.

Where exactly at in freemont?

I'm looking at crate motors right now and might be considering dropping in a http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=NAL%2D12499529&autoview=sku

That addes 100 hp and a lot more torque to the engine I have in my k5 now. I want to beable to wheel this thing with 35" and not have it feel like a dog.

I know if I added 35's with bigger rims right now, my truck would be so dead I'd dredd driving it.

You should be able to get a new cat for much cheaper than that, just shop around.

We all want more power, a lot of HP is not bad and too much HP is just right... But it never ends. My daily driver makes 810ft lbs of torque.... and I want more!

I think you are just getting way ahead of yourself, especially if your budget is $1800 right now. I've got bad news for ya... that $1800 is not going to even cover a new set of Welds and the 35" Boggers you are after, unless you can catch a smoking used deal.

You need to save up about $7-8K or so then start going into all of this. To give you an example.... You seem to like my K5 and was asking about it in your other thread, I have $20K in my K5. It just adds up.

Last time i am going to advise this, don't know why you are looking for a new motor, you need to figure out what is causing the loss of power, there is NO REASON for this, unless you have like 2billion miles on that motor.....FIND the problem, and honestly, quit whining about not having any power in it,

ok, something is not right,,,so find out exactly what the problem is, BEFORE you go dumping all sorts of cash into it with a new motor.

or are we just needing alittle attention here:confused:

I already have money set aside for the rims and tires. :P. I have 1800-2000 left for 2 1/2" shackle flips and a motor :P. The shackle flips would wait until I had more money but you are most likely right. I need to start saving up more money.

I have about 4000 saved up right now. So I'll try and replace the cat and fuel filter and hope I get some improvements. I want to go wheeling out at hollister soon as I've only gone offroading in this truck once and it was a blast. Hopefully it will preform well for being a stock k5 except for axle improvements. Although all my friend's parents got them new trucks so none of them want to wheel them.

Call the muffler shop i just linked for you. They sell the hi-flow CATs pretty cheap including the install. Also when you're done complaining about the lack of power get that thing here to Fremont so i can help you with it.

The place is called Guaranteed Muffler and brake. They are on Fremont Blvd. just north of Thornton Ave. When you call ask for Alan and tell him Scott from Fremont Machine sent you. Here is their webite http://www.guaranteedmufflers.com/home.nxg

Thanks dude. Seems like a lot of people around here are machinists. My dad owns a machine shop in morgan hill, off tenant. I'll give him a call tomorrow and see what he says.

Remember, he is also comparing his engine to later model trucks, as he mentioned a parent's F150 with a Triton motor. He may be looking at late model 5L engines and thinking his 1990 350 should perform the same.

Regardless, you are right though about the maintenance.

I'm not sure how far you are from Fremont, but this is ONE HELL OF AN OFFER. :eek1: :eek1: 4x4HIGH is a pro, and bending over backwards to help you out, and save you lots of money, by figuring out the problem, instead of just throwing money at it. SERIOUSLY CONSIDER THIS!

Good luck

What i am actually getting at, is he keeps getting on here, complaining about the lack of power, and keeps asking for ideas on how to get more ouot of it,,,,,,not doing what we have already suggested first, to figure out what the original issue may be....

find the problem, if in fact there is a problem,,, get it running like it's supposed to, THEN add more power :D

I'm going to call the guy tomorrow and see if I can get him to do the cat on friday since I have no school. Fuel filter is finally being changed tomorrow after I get home from school.

Hopefully i'll see improvement with the new filter. I'll keep you guys posted. Thanks to everyone, especially 4X4High :].

Night.

I agree with Zim 100%. If I had access to a guy like Scott, I'd be bugging him so much he'd eventually tell me to **** off and leave him alone.........:rotfl: :rotfl:

Just so you know, my friend, these offers don't happen everyday. I honestly wish Scott was telling ME to come by his shop. If only I was a little closer.:doah:

So it is your shop? I'm hoping you'll have time for someone to do it friday as I have no school then and traffic that way kills after 3 :p.

No, the muffler shop isn't mine, the machine shop is.

Oh the other poster made it seem like it was your muffler shop too. You just know the owner or something?

You do any work for esco in freemont? My dad has his own machine shop in morgan hill and he does stuff for esco so I've been down that way a lot of times lately. :P.
