Just ordered the pro comp 6" lift for my 90 4x4 blazer. The drivetrain is stock. Is there anything I should replace or upgrade right away? Will be running 35" Tires as well. Will be using this rig for light trails and light mud.
Thanks

You will need to fender trim the back side of the front fenders otherwise the tires will hit when compressed. I have a 6" spring up front and also a D60 which gave another 3/4" lift and i can stuff the tires into the fenders easily.

35" tires with the stock gearing is going to kill the trans in short order if you're not careful. I would jump to 4.56's right away. With the stock 10 bolt axles i would not go any deeper otherwise the pinion gear becomes too small and they like to break. IMHO 4.56's are marginal strength wise in a 10 bolt axle.

i am getting a new/rebuilt tranny in a week or so. the one thats in there is riding 1st and 2nd gear and feels like i have a firm shift kit in it. What do you think about 4.10s?

Honestly i have a 89 blazer with the 700R4 and 4.56 gearing and wished i had went deeper. 4.10's are definately better than your probable 3.73's but IMHO still not enough gear for having the 700R4.

He should have 3.42 stock unless he already changed to 4.10

Why do you say that? My 89 blazer with a 350/700R4 had 3.73's with 31" tires from the factory. I know this as fact as i have the window sticker.

I would do a C.V. rear driveline. There tend to shake on the freeway. and replace the frame bushing for the shackle if it's apart. Also weld in box plate.

I say that because it's the most common, I guess I should have said what I was thinking:
He should most likely have the 3.42 which was the standard ratio after 82.
3.73 and 4.10 were optionnal, depending on the choices of HD or towing package or oversize tires.
Later they offered packages like the Z71 which included the bigger tres, lower gears and LS diff as well as different shocks.

:D
The 3.42 ratio was paired with the 235/75/15 tires which measure roughly 29".

I'm sitting here looking at my window sticker and the 3.73 gearing was an optional upsale item of $38.00.

Like 4x4high said 4:10 will be a little better than 3:73. If you do not have a lot of money you may consider finding a set of 3/4 ton axles with 4:10 or 4:56 in them and doing an axle swap which can be cheaper than regearing your 10 bolts. Look for a 10 bolt or dana 44 and 14 bolt. This is a common swap on here and is pretty easy. I think you can get away with 4:10 depending on your wheeling. I run 35 inch tires with 4:10 and it does not do too bad on the highway. I have to agree with 4x4high 4:56 or lower would take away my sluggish take off. :woot:

I ran 4:56 with my 33s and 700r4, loved it. Well i also only used them for 4 hours then threw them across the highway, Some reason i didnt like to wait the "break in" period...
