Just saying hi to all the ladies and gents here at Ck5. I purchased my K5 in TX on February and just showing the changes I have made in a few months. Started on 1/2 tons and now on 3/4 tons locker in rear. Just completed a chop job and now full convertible. Planning on a mild 350 build staying with TBI and still working on a roll cage. I did all work myself minus the body work on the bed rails and windshield frame. I appreciate all the great articles and help from everyone with questions!

Great looking Blazer! Looking forward to seeing more mods.

Thanks for all the nice comments everyone. I was a little hesitant on going full vert. The biggest issue here in AZ there are not a lot of 73-75 rigs that someone wants to part or let go for cheap. I also did not want to buy a K5 that could be restored. I would feel guilty cutting into a rust free tub. I ended up finding a rusted 73 donor in Kingman AZ and didn't feel guilty harvesting the windshield frame top, and door parts for the conversion. The first two pics are from the seller. The last pic is after I removed the windshield frame and doors.

Well got the modified roll bar in that was originally made for the rear. I lengthened it 8 inches in order to accommodate the floor that changed in I believe 78. This is just for looks and to allow me to run my CJ5 modified bikini top to run it in the summer here on those 107 degree days we have. I am still working on either fabricating new rocker boxes or using some type of tubular steel reinforce the frame. I also plan to re gear to 5:13's, lengthened my rear driveshaft and a new engine. More to come in Feb...

I am interested in what you do with the rocker boxes. This has crossed my mind as well.

Looks great.

Kinda cool in the pics in your top post the wheels subtly change a couple time with the updates.

Did you end up doing structural bracing? I think that rollbar will do something (better than nothing). I know you said was for aesthetics, looks great. Any idea where its mounted relative to where the half cab was before? Said another way, could that be mounted with the half cab or only with half cab cut off?

Handy1, wish I had a solid answer on the rocker boxes and what exactly the plan is.... More to come.

muddybuddy, depending on your year of Blazer you can install the roll bar to a half top rig. Here is where I got the idea to use the rear roll bar. I had to length my roll bar to accommodate the floor dropping in my 90 almost 8 inches. Hope that answers your question. Here is the thread.

I was on 35x14x15 Boggers last year but sold them. They were too rough on the road but loved the look. I will eventually get another set in 16's

I am nowhere near, ready to cut the top off at this point. However I have thought about using some tubing to brace the inner rocker panels, and some how tie it to the front hinge pillar and rear latch pillar .

Handy1 I'm looking into square tubing as well. Just not sure how to tie it all in yet. I would like to find a 73 to 75 Blazer someone is parting out here in AZ and get a non-rusted pair of rocker boxes. As mentioned before my donor 73 was too rusted out to salvage them.

This has been done here b4. Checkbthe build threads. I remember seeing pictures of the mod to reinforce the body and windshield A pilars

I think I could fabricate rocker boxes if I had some to look at.
