1990 GMC 1500 Jimmy

I'll look, but after I pushed the button I started feeling dumb. I was thinking about the trim all around the truck. I know that all of that has got to be plated aluminum. I didn't notice any screws in the gutter trim but, I wasn't looking for them. I will look again. They just at the ends I guess.

I have a flip phone, I've never liked cameras, that means in front of and behind either.
I'm guessing that you are talking about pics of the gutter. I can't help it. It came out better than even I expected. Leaving it dirty seems to have really kept the sun from doing much damage to the paint, other than the fiberglass section. Did those tops come shiny or satin? I'm going to take my time and spray it with spray cans the gutters too. The damage is that small. They advertise all that paint that does so well. I guess that I'm going to find out on the gutters. The fiberglass came dark gray to match the color insets on the sides. I'm considering changing it to the silver that the rest of the truck is painted. I'm considering this because, I'm in S.C. and getting the air to cool the truck takes a while. I'm usually there before it cools off. It only has front air. Thinking about it, with the removable top, it probably wasn't available (DUH).
Is there a phone that I can send pics to so that they can post them for me? If so, put it in my messages here or my email, it's in my profile. It won't go any further, infact I won't keep it unless told to.

Thanks again, Paul

The aluminum gutter piece should have a series of hex-head screws throughout the channel. You can paint the top whatever color you want, I don't know about the shiny/satin question. GM didn't offer rear air in the blazers, but some folks have added rear A/C units from Suburbans if they wanted more air. I remember one guy added an HVAC unit between the seats, blowing backwards, to accommodate the high temps in his region. If you use the stock Suburban unit, it hangs from the roof, so you wind up lowering the A/C unit each time you take the top off. Not sure if that would be an issue for you or not.

As for getting photos off of your phone, you *should* be able to plug your phone into the computer and access pictures on there like you would with any form of disc drive (flash drive/hard drive/CD drive/floppy drive/etc.). When the phone is connected it should appear as a drive that you can pull pictures or whatever off of. I hope this helps, I'm not able to give better details without knowing your specific phone.

I tried to get the battery compartment open to get the model and couldn't. I put alot of pressure on it. I don't want to break it. If I can nail my daughter down for a minute, she probably knows how. I don't think that I've got a cable but, I can't be sure.

I went out and looked at the gutter. It's an assembly that is spot welded on. It doesn't have a chrome cover or anything. It was my other truck that has the chrome on it.

Oh well, got to go vote, Thanks, catch you later, Paul

Paul sent me a pic to post.

Thanks Disenough, I was wondering if the pic that I sent you was large and good enough. I'll have to say it was large enough, Thanks again.

I got some of the supposedly matching "Dupli Color Exact Match Paint" today and thought seriously about changing the color of the top to the silver, but, the "original" bug got me. I'm still thinking about it because of the temp due to the sun and the lighter color won't fade as fast.

Does anyone remember if the fiberglass tops in '90 had a flat, satin or a gloss finish? I'm thinking about satin irregardless, where a shiny top won't make the rest look flat. Opinions?

Thanks again, Paul

Paint it however you want, GM had plenty of options throughout the years. If you want the lighter color, and you're redoing it anyways, use the color that you like! No use putting in the time to paint it and then being unhappy with the result. :dunno:

Well, I thought about it and decided to put it back like it came. Pam said that I should be very happy that I made the right choice, and of course I am!! (atleast according to her)

She is looking right at it out her bedroom window. She made the comment this evening that she couldn't believe how good it looks. I've still got a 12" full random orbital buffer from when I had the off-shore boat. After I get the paint right, I might just break it out and let her see just how good it really does look. You know that you can't really clean a paint job with a pressure washer. If you get too close, you don't have any paint left to look at and a little too far and it's not really clean. At least this time I've still got most of the paint on the vehicle.

Thanks Everybody, Paul

Nice! Like I said before....worth more stock and nice, than if you screw with it to much. But if you want a hunting rig... its yours to do what you want with.

Hope you get it running. Shouldn't be to hard. And then have fun!

Thanks Mr. 02, I think that it's going to look good. It was "Pretty" according to my wife. I need to ask some questions about doing some touch up to the paint and fiberglass shell. I think that I saw a body work area, so I guess that I'll post my questions over there. I don't know how strict the moderators are about tht kind of stuff here, so please look over there and see if you can give some more good tips and advice.

Thanks Everybody, I really do appreciate the help, Paul

If wifey is happy, then you have done a million-dollar paint job. :thumb:

You can ask any technical questions in the garage. Starting a separate thread for a specific question is a good idea, as it will reach more people. Use a descriptive title and place it in either section.

Thanks, I will. Yesterday I typed a long list of how I was going to do things and a complete list of things that I had and had bought. I tryed to send only to find that I had lost the net. I haven't seen it since. If somebody knows where it might be, let me know asap, Please. I'm about to start over again and it takes a while when you use 1 finger, 2 if I'm in a big hurry. Thanks, Paul

I'm one happy old Phart. When I went to re-type the response that I had lost and couldn't find. When I went to do it again the site had saved about half of it. I guess that was when I lost the net. Maybe I ought to go get a lottery ticket !! Paul

Good to hear from you Campfire,

It's been moving slowly, but moving.

I've been fighting with getting the paint repair done. Part of the problem is my fault, part is the weather, and the biggest problem has been with the paint. Read "2 colors of paint out of 1 spray can" or something like that. I think that it should be on the first few pages, I think. That will pretty well explain most of it. The main reason that the paint has taken so long is drying time and it taking a couple of days each time to get the response from Duplicolor, which their conformation E-Mail says that it's going to be about that. I believe that they thought at first that I was trying to get over on them, then I think they thought that I was looking for a scape goat and finally to prove that it shouldn't be contamination, I put 3 more coats down and let it dry. Some of the time, I was getting someone to e-mail my pic's back to me so that I could send them to them. They are supposed to be sending me 2 cans of paint, which, is nice, but it took 3 cans to put the 3 extra coats on the sides of the top. I haven't started on the very top yet, it's explained in the other thread. Most of this is too.

The top came from the factory that color, it wasn't changed. The thing is that color pattern isn't shown as an option. Might have been ordered because the top color is listed by itself on the window sticker.

I've started getting some of the misc. junk that I going to need and doing things like putting Marvel Mystery Oil on the plugs, but I'm doing one step at a time because I can't work on it for about an hour or a little more at a time because of my body/health problems, and I'm on a fixed income. I've also been married to a woman since Nov. of '77 that has an expensive hobby, shopping. Actually that's not 100% accurate, the hobby is buying.

I try to remember that I'm retired and have a lot of time. Most people that I talk with aren't retired and don't have time to mess with answering a bunch of questions that the answer could be found with a little effort.

I'm trying to get one of my daughter's friends over here to work on this computer and the operator too for that matter. If pics can be sent to my e-mail from my flip phone, she will be able to show me and I can write it down.

Thanks and stay in touch, Paul

Hello everybody, I didnt die but have had some bad health problems. I still have the Jimmy and still want to put it back on the road but now I'm going to have to impose on a son in law I guess. They have me dragging oxygen tanks around 24/7. The oxygen got me thinking about feeding o2 into the engine in limited amounts at some point. I don't want to blow it up with nitrous oxide. There I go thinking again, forget that I even said that.
I apologize for not getting back with all of of you but I've been kinda busy with docs and hospitals. I don't know how much I can do or how fast. Alot depends on my inlaws and friends. The Jimmy hasn't changed a bit from what I can see from here.
Again thanks everybody, hope to have something to report in the near future.
