Hi, My name is Geoff and I have a problem.... I can't stop buying old junkers. It started out years ago. But a lot has happened in the last year.

The story starts with last year. I bought this gem for a song at $500! Bought the plow for $250. With the help of CUCV2, I was able to get the correct engine brackets for the plow pump. For the time being, this will primarily be the plow vehicle for the little ladies grandparents house up in the Colorado mountains. I need to thin the herd a bit before I do anything more with it. Pretty clean truck 138k, 2 previous owners. Rear axle makes a little noise was the reason for them selling it. I've put a couple hundred miles on it. It's noisy for sure. but it'll be doing 10mph or less for some time as a plow truck.

Its the usual Tbi 5.7 700R4 np241. loaded SLE model
I have most of the stuff to make it an internet approved build at some point to include;
Dana 60
14b
just a few inch lift 2-3"
prob just some 285's

With 2 dogs and some camping gear, I think it'll be a very usable truck.

I like my fisher blades ! ! !

what width ? if you don't know how many trip springs .

3 spring = 7ft 6" down blade and light duty unit if you can say fisher and light duty . . .

4 trip springs is 8ft and up heavy duty .

I have a 8ft and 9ft blade for my truck . click plow machine below .

Looks nice. I can't believe such a nice rig would get put on plow duty. Around here the plow trucks rust out so quickly. Is it different out there? I know Colorado has a lot less rust than we do (overall). :dunno:

Plowing will just destroy the truck.

Rust. Frame bending. Fatigue on drive train.

I never saw the point in doing anything extra to plow trucks. From the minute that plow goes on their days are numbered.

That's what I was trying to get at. Before long they wind up looking like this:

Thanks to @Highpsi for formerly owning the stereotypical rusty plow truck.

This one is a 7'6" Perfect for what little use it will get.

I Think plow trucks rust out much quicker because people tend to leave them to just that and nothing else. These trucks go down the same roads as every other car. Just as much salt, road grime etc, but they get washed! plow trucks get parked. Little to no maintenance (only absolutely necessary things to keep it running). As for Colorado, far less humidity, not as much snow in the lower climates. You could eat off the underside of this thing and will continue to be able to as long as I own it! I Promise to keep'er nice!
Why lift and 1 ton a plow truck?
Why not? A 2-3" lift is far from massive. Its purely for function. This wont live its whole life just plowing. 1 tons you ask? Because the internet says I have to!

Plus, I have all the parts and have wanted another sub for a while now. This one came up right price, wrong time.

Hence the time being; I need to get rid of some vehicles before I focus on using it for anything more than plowing one driveway. A truck with a plow doesn't mean its days are numbered. I've had plenty of trucks with plows. some nice, some not so nice. I Firmly believe its how you treat them and how well they've been maintained. I've had trucks that never had a plow on them that were in far worse condition than one with one. I don't intend on "destroying" this truck just because it has a plow on it. I've lived in the Northeast with lots of snow and rust. I've also seen some very clean older trucks with little to no rust that had a plow since day one.

cause when done plowing ........ drop plow and go play in the snow .
Exactly!

I've owned 4 GM plow trucks, some had the plow setup long before I bought them, others were virgins that I added the Fisher plow to, after buying them and popped their cherry's..:D

None of them were that bad when I first got them, the salt and sitting idle is what took the most toll on all of them, and I'm the first to admit I could have been more vigilant about keeping the rust at bay..more than a few were really solid when I first got them...

I don't think the plow beats on the truck all that much--if used properly,by that I mean staying under 10-15 mph like Fisher reccomends while pushing, and avoiding slamming any immoveable objects or frozen bankings, you wont hurt the truck any...

It is no worse than taking it off road and flexing the crap out of it,or going over washboard dirt roads at high speeds..or hitting wash outs on the interstate at 65 mph..

So we got about 18" of snow 2 weeks ago and I had to put the ol girl to work. Me and the lil lady went up and took care of the grandparents place and decided it would be best to run the truck back down to our place to take care of our lot. So we did. Once we got the truck back down to Colorado springs, we plowed our lot. We are in a Industrial/Commercial area with many businesses around. Before I knew it, We were getting flagged down by all the local businesses to help clear their lots, then they were calling other businesses they knew. We were all over town pushing snow! Home owners also wanted some of the burbs snow pushing action. We made $1200 in 2 days! It was the simplest plowing I've ever done. Nice straight forward jobs, no crappy ins and outs, light fluffy snow, no real detail needed. This thing paid for itself and then some! Everyone we helped told us to come back if there's ever a big storm.

We even plowed out the local strippers!

I happened to have another Meyer plow sitting around at the storage yard. So I took a few Hrs over the weekend and installed it on my 2 door Tahoe. I think this one will do the primary amount of plowing if need be. The suburban will make its way back up into the Mountains and still be the one driveway unit.

yukky Meyers :poo:

me like my fishers :woot:

only thing free lance plowing like that watch out for hidden objects covered you don't know are there .

I actually google earthed every place we were to see if there were curbs etc. Not the best method, but it got us by. I'm not an elec over hyd fan myself. But the fishers are non existent out here, especially in an old speedcast. I do have another 7'6" speedcast coming next time a friend comes out. I'll have to find a truck for it.
