Figured out my main Transmission leak was at the Detent cable. The one installed on the truck was bolted down but the larger part with the cable running thru it was out of the bore where it goes into the transmission.

I went to install a new one today however I'm having the same issue. The part with the cable running thru it WON'T GO INTO THE HOLE. The old cable I removed was fully intact. Is it possible a PO broke part of an cable off inside the bore???

Spent 2hrs trying to get it to go in... Zero Luck.

Would an old grommet be stuck inside??

Ideas???

I put the grommet in the trans first, then install the cable.
BINGO

I tried this first thing this morning. Was tight fit but it went in.

Kept beating my head against the wall until I saw RockAuto sold the grommets separately. Took mine off, stuffed it in and BOOM the rest of the assembly went in tight, "tight like a tiger."

Huge sigh when it went in.
