Hi Everyone,
This is my first post. I recently purchased a 1990 Suburban 1500 4x4. Picked her up for $2800. I am new to offroading and new to 4x4s. So I will have a lot of noobie questions. I have been snooping around the site for a few weeks and have already learned a ton! I now realize I should have started with a 2500. But oh well this is a long term learning experience and I want to do almost all mods myself.
The suburban is basically stock. It has the original 350 around 290k miles. Rebuilt 700r4, not sure what transfer case. Axles are 10 bolt front and rear. It has a 6inch lift, 6 inch leafs in the front, blocks in the rear, 35” bfgs. My plans for the Suburban is a camping/trail truck. I want it to be able to handle medium rock crawling so I am not going for anything too crazy. My future plans so far is a roof rack, rear shackle flip, zero rates, Dana 60 (not sure if ff or not), 14 bolt rear (discs hopefully). 37” tires. I also want some bumpers, front with a winch, rear with a tire carrier, and two jerry can mounts. The motor also needs to be rebuilt or replaced with something else, she is running strong but she is getting tired.
Recently I tackled the rust on the roof. I sanded down all the rust, filled the holes, and applied Herculiner. I am very happy with the outcome, it is very durable and I love the two tone color of the burb now.
I would appreciate any advice, support, questions, ect., to help get the ball rolling. I really look forward to networking and collaborating with everyone on here. I love forum communities and appreciate all the support and advice given. I will post pics a soon as I allowed!!!
All the best,
James

welcome aboard and hope to see the progress:thumb: the more burbs the better

welcome!!

you'll be addicted in no time...great place, great folks here!

p.s....burbs rawk!!

nice truck

btw, all d60 fronts are ff...
if you don't plan on crawling hard core, a 14bff rear and 8lug hubs on your 10bolt with a regear would work just fine.

diggin the roof coating!

Thanks for the advice and info! That will save me on the pocket book for sure. I wont be doing any hard core rack crawling. The occasional rough trail. I dont want to get into anything serious. I would probable go with a Blazer if I want to do that in the future.

Hey now!!! lol

Nice burb however, for a burb.....:haha: just messin

Haha. Just messing also. I love Blazers! There are a couple reasons I went with a Suburban. First, my first vehicle was my moms 1989 burb with a 454. Second, a Blazer in the same condition is 4x more expensive! :screwy:

I am still young. So there is plenty of time to acquire a Blazer.

Good point, my first vehicle was my dads 91 burb. Loved it, didnt want that much space though, and my dad had 2 blazers befor the burb that I loved. So I got one identical to my dads:thumb:. (which he gives me $hit for everyday lol)

Good looking Sub you have there. I am on my 5th Sub, but this one (the best year for a Sub - 1991) I will keep for a while. Let me know if you ever need help with anything on it - I am in Costa Mesa.
