1990 V2500 4x4 Suburban. Driveline Swap

Hi everyone. Im a returning member. I used to have an 87 K5 Blazer but got rid of it. I recently bought a 1990 V2500 4x4 Suburban and I'm building it into a Camping/Roadtrip truck. I bought this in Phoenix but it came from Washington State. I believe it used to be a service vehicle for Lake Chelan Parks.

Here's what she looked like when I started:

I got a 5.3L engine and a 6L80E transmission out of a 2013 Silverado that was rolled with only 50K on the clock.

I'm going to start gathering parts to do the install and in the mean time I'm planning to get a wire wheel and grind off all the surface rust under the truck and repaint the areas that need it. I'm planning on spraying the entire underside of the body with Lizard Skin sound deading so I want to make sure I'm not trapping in any corrosion. I'm planning a backpacking trip in Glacier National Park in September, I hope to drive this up there.

What tranny did it have to start with?

Another Arizonan! Welcome back. Suburban looks great, I'm a Suburban guy myself. Looking forward to your build, sounds similar to my plans.

If you get a chance and if you've got the carpet (or whatever floor covering it may have) out could you take some pictures of the floor boards along the transmission/transfercase tunnel? I want to see how it looks so I can build mine correctly (my truck has a 2wd body on a 4wd frame)

Keep an eye on the thread, I'm planning on documenting everything as I go along. Not sure when I'll get to the interior but it's gonna happen eventually.

'subbed. I love burbs! If it were me I'd go with the 4l80...th400 with overdrive!

6L80E, awesome! What gearing you going with? The gearing it is better than the Allison I plan on putting behind my cummins. Makes me rethink the Allison.

Not quite sure yet. I'm gonna just use the stock gears for now. I'm trying to make this thing as fuel efficient as possible. Well, as fuel efficient as a 1990 suburban with 33s can be anyway lol..

Subscribing! This is pretty much what I have on my radar! Any updates?
