Picked this up a couple months ago just now getting around to starting build thread. 1991 GMC crew cab 2wd tbi454 4l80e. Very very little surface rust $500 and I drove it home. 454 runs very strong and even had enough power to spin duals. Plan is to pull motor and cab from cc and put on a single cab long box frame i have from my 86 which is already lifted 4 inches. I have 1 ton axles, a rebuilt bullet proof 700r4, brand new 35x12.5x15 Pro Comp mud terrains, and many other parts from collecting over the years. Progress will be kinda slow as im waiting on getting my 86 K10 here and will only be able to work on it while Im home from work.

End results will be a 1991 cc on sc lb frame with a tbi 454 changed to carbed, rebuilt "bullet proof" 700r4, np241, 14 bolt ff with locker and disc brakes, d60 with locker, 4 or 5 inches of lift, 35x12.5x15 Pro Comp Mud terrains, and of course paint and bumpers and all that good stuff im not completely sure about exactly how im doing at this point.

yeah, IMO there is no such thing as a bullet proof 700r4...

You already have a bullet proof tranny. Shoot I will trade you a 700 and the wiring harness out of a Burb for that 80E and its harness.

It seems to me it would be a whole lot easier to just get the axles under the 2wd frame. Why pull so much and switch everything around when it's in place just to get axles under it. 2wd to 4wd is really easy

this is very true! its very easy, i have many pictures in my thread from when i did mine.

I had a family friend whos a "tranny genius" rebuild 700r4 and he swears up and down its bullet proof so im giving him the benefit of the doubt it is and im gonna push it and see to either prove him wrong or right. As far as going carbed im doing it for simplicity and the fact ive ran a carb in my 86 and never had a problem plus no tbi is one less thing to worry bout. Have a 89 burban with 350tbi and love it but also know what a pain all the different sensors and **** can be. As far as frame goes yeah I know its fairly simple to swap to 4wd but in the time I would do 4wd swap and shorten frame itd be just as easy to strip and use sc lb frame. Ive had my fun with 86 and the bodys shot so might as well use frame thats already 4wd. And I suppose I shoulda given more info. My plans are to go throu everything and clean up/ replace what needs it. Frames getting coated body painted etc.. So doesn't matter which frame id use its all getting striped down completely (hence why I decided to just use sc lb frame)

Thoughts crossed my mind... Ill hold onto 4l80e and wiring harness and tbi stuff in case I change my mind later down the road or put a different motor in it and wanna get rid of 454 and 4l80e

TBI to carb is a horrible idea. It's a long box, put a divorced NP205 behind the 4L80E.

Well the 700r4 in my suburban took a crap on me.... So the suburban will be getting the rebuilt 700r4 out of my 86... So u all will be pleased to hear I will be running a 4l80e and keeping the tbi since im keeping computer to run 4l80e. Thinking about running a divorced np205 with the 2wd 4l80e.
