1991 GMC V3500 Project

The truck looks great!

Search this site, I believe you can use a 85+ 400/205 adapter with minor machine work.
spacer kit that if i recall north west fab sells . then bolt on and go . https://www.northwestfab.com/4l80E-to-TH400-NP205-AdapterSpacer-Kit_p_3452.html reason is the index ring is 2 different sizes and the 4l80 need room for the pan and a th400 adapter dont have the mount point set back to clear it .

and i ran a lokar trans mount shifter threw the stock 4 speed hole and boot on my old k30 . so many people were sure it was a 4 speed but it was auto . got this model in black and piston for shifter on top like this one . https://www.summitracing.com/parts/LOK-XATS6350AN

Yea, that's exactly what I'm thinking for the shifter.

and if using early external pass side low mount slave nv4500 its a 98% bolt in to your current hydro clutch if thats still in your truck . just need to cut hard line rebend and shape . flare a new metric bubble flare nut on and get a union for metric bubble to metric bubble . did it before in a guys blazer i built .

then the nv4500 with the A.A. spacer kit to the round 6 205 is only around 3/8" if that longer and most drive shafts can eat that up no mods .

I've considered an nv4500 too and I struggle with the decision. For one, I've had a hard time finding a 4wd nv4500 in Central Texas until recent but I did find a guy in San Antonio that has a couple. Every time I've crunched the numbers they've come out about the same. I don't mind the manual at all and I know the nv4500 would be even nicer to drive than the SM465 but if cost is roughly the same then I THINK I'd prefer an auto... I dunno, every time someone brings up an nv4500 swap, I start convincing myself of it again all over... HAHAHA

Yea, I have the factory hydro clutch and it's all new in the last year. That sounds easy enough, why the hell did they put the slave on the passenger side of the nv4500? I'm a newbie when it comes to the nv4500, seems like there's quite a few variants, 3 GM?, a bunch of Dodge variants, etc?

So will my 1991 SM465 bell housing not work with the nv4500? I assume all of the nv4500 bellhousings will fit my truck but is there an ideal option?

Pass side slave for the 88-up now driver drop t-case . . Some have modded the early trans and bell but most just do like i said .

Killer rig!!

Mind me asking how much the paint cost,?

Thanks man. $14k... with a mostly straight (to the layman's eye), rust free body. Paint is Ferrari Grigio Scuro with three coats of clear and flex agent in every spray.

Very nice! Im plan ing to use that same front bumper and wire up the lights as fogs. I see yours arent on with the markers, how are you using them?

I used these “custom” park lights from lmc truck for 81-82 trucks (same years for bumper of course). They have clear lenses instead of the standard diffused. Part #37-4592

Then used these LED lights. They’re simply wired up to a switch in the ashtray.

They work pretty well as a traditional fog light. I’ll grab some pics soon to show them on and off. The headlights are also the custom headlights linked below. This allowed me to get matching LEDs to the fogs so they’re all the same color temp.

Also, where did you get the switch/usb plate for the ashtray? Looks like clean setup

Little project this past weekend. Swapped the open carrier in the rear diff (14t 10.5”, 4.10s) with a Yukon Dura Grip posi (YDGGM14T-3-30-1). This is a full carrier replacement. I initially ordered a Yukon Grizzly locker but returned it as I wanted ultimate strength and on-road driveability and Yukon doesn’t recommend over 35” in the lightest duty applications, and this thing ain’t light. The 14t 10.5” axle is super easy to swap and setup! Drives sooo much better now, no more one wheel wonder.

Stay tuned a lot of changes coming in the next few months!

Is anyone local to central TX and interested in the front springs off the truck? I want to go to 6". They're Tuff Country, 4" heavy duty springs, SKU: 18471 $280
