Does anyone know the discard spec on the front rotors of a 91 K5?

Thanks!

Unfortunately in a hurry on my end, but if you go to the link in my signature, you should be able to get the proper year (or close) service manual, which should tell you the criteria for good/bad rotors. Sorry I can't help more.

thanks for the link. service manuals i looked at showed mostly hyd repairs, couldn't find the discard specs....

Unfortunately I can't access them where I am, they are probably either where the assembly/disassembly of the hub/rotor is detailed, or at the end of that section or chapter of the manual.

I can't imagine they aren't in there, although later on GM got further and further away from the manuals telling you how to rebuild components vs. replacement, there has to be specs for rotor runout to know when it needs replaced.

Unless they've been turned or run with bad pads, I'm thinking it's pretty unlikely you'd end up with rotors that were under the discard thickness. My experience thus far has been that they end up with excessive runout, but it's only been two rotors over 15 years.

Don't know my K5 history, with all the JUNK Chinese rotors out there I was just wondering . I'm Used To bigger Trucks so they looked tiny/thin

A lot of times the minimum thickness will be in-bossed on the inner part of the rotor. you will see a number like 1.855 or 2.335 something like that on the rotor itself.

I'm currently running junk chinese rotors (I think they were $11!), but I haven't put any real miles on them, or hard use. I don't disagree, they are likely to be problematic.

My excuse is that I bought them to test using 1/2" studs and didn't want to drill/potentially screw up a more costly rotor.

Well yeah.... but if I'm going to the trouble to yank em.... I'm replacing them. Like I said, to me they "look" thin. Are they???? Who knows.

Just chuck them and go big..........................

Hummer H3 rotors and four piston calipers, puts the "Whoa" in square body front brakes.

Interesting. .. where can I learn more about this?

My brake upgrade thread.............................

With the front 4 piston/larger rotors and the wider disk brake rear axle, my suburban stops like a brand new truck. Plus the parking brake still functions.
As noted in the build the drill size I used was a little big, I would have definitely preferred to find a smaller one to get it perfect. But I haven't had any issues yet.
