Guys

I'm going to take the top off my 91 K5 (for me first time). I want to replace the left and right seals between the cab and the topper. Also I want to replace the seal between the roof line and the topper.

Ok, so I have to remove those wonderful bolts for the seat belts in the back. I have to remove the access panel and disconnect the toppers dome lamp harness. Also I'm to check for a bolt that threads in from UNDER the rail in the back (which side, not sure).

Ok, but what about the seals. Do they get pushed into gaps, or are their clips? Any special tools?

Thanks Guys

The bolts from the underside are farthest towards the tailgate on both sides. The seals are glued to the top. Get a paint scraper and razor blade for the bedside seals. Just take your time and get get all you can off on the header seals (both cab and topper side). All replacement seals are glued on. Use 3M weatherstrip adhesive and just take your time. Apply the adhesive very thin (use vinyl gloves or popsicle sticks) to the weatherstipping and the spot it will be glued to and make sure it tacks up good on both sides before you try to stick it to the cab or topper. Work in small sections. That's about all the advice I can give.

There are 4 seals. One on each bedside, One headers seal on the topper and another on the cab. The 2 header seals sort of 'interlock' to make it waterproof. 1AAuto has a nice kit. That's who I used.

EDIT: 2 more advices - 1) no need to reinstall the 2 bolts from underneath and 2) scuff all the rubber surfaces to be glued with 80 grit to give the glue something to bind to.

Seat belts, make sure they don't use a T-47 (odd Torx size, what GM used for most seat belt bolts), in my opinion make sure you get a bit of butyl rubber to replicate the channel that GM made on the bed rail up near the front, and use dielectric grease on the seals to make removal and probably installation easier.

Bolts are on both rear corners on the underside. I doubt any of us reinstall those things lol.

I notice my top has a propsenity to "spread" when unbolted, and it makes keeping and getting it on the bed rails a bit difficult. It doesn't take much for the top to slide off the side.
