Hi Guys,

I have a 1991 k5 that I want to convert the electronic plastic black side mirrors to the classic chrome ones from the 80's series. I know people have posted on here before about it but the only advice that was given is that they bolt right up.

Well I got a pair of the classics off an 80's and they don't match up. The bolt pattern is much smaller on the 91 electric plastic ones. Does anyone know of a conversion kit or have any recommendations on converting? I have seen the 91 body style with the older chrome mirrors. not sure how they did it and I can't find any info on it. PLease help.

Thanks

I might be interested in your take off electrics (depending on the price).

there mounted in a slightly different spot if I recall.

and also the door main glass is blacked out for the power mirrors . not a biggy for function but look real funky

Yeah the patterns are definitely different. The only solution I can think to the problem is to find some doors that match the mirrors or cutting the current bolt threads off and bolt into the sheet metal the old mirrors. I don't really think I am up for cutting the current threads. I hate destroying any k5 piece. I might just try to find some doors down the road and paint them when I am ready to paint the body.

I was hopeful that maybe someone on here might know of some sort of conversion kit.

I don't think you want the ones I got. The owner before me scratched them up a bit. Plus I would like to hold onto them in the event I want to go back to electrics.

I think my best bet will be finding some older doors that are white with the right bolt pattern. That way I have the option to flip flop. My k5 is my daily, not a mudder, I like keeping it original and clean as much as possible.

If you do decide to buy new non-electric mirrors, look at LMC as they have some heated versions available now. Not sure about the quality yet though. Been considering a set for myself for the winter mornings.

Any good reason you are switching to manuals? The 92-99 electric heads mount onto the 91 lower brackets, and make replacement heads CHEAP. I think mine was $30 or 40 shipped.

I just can't see why manual mirrors would be an advantage. Swapping doors is definitely the easier way to go.

Not really an advantage other than I like the look of the old manual chrome mirrors. I think chrome is such a dying art on cars. My dad had an 84 when I was a kid and we went everywhere in it. I bought the 91 for the fuel injection and have been adding some 80's parts for the look I want.

Basically, not a fan of the plastic mirrors as I am of the manual chromes. I agree with you on the door method. Unless someone made a nice conversion bracket somewhere out there.
