Am going to attempt to replace the fuel pump in my 1991 V2500 Suburban. Auto parts store shows a couple of possible tank sizes. The tank size is not listed on the RPO code list. How do I find this? Thanks.

Go here, halfway down are measured tanks vs gallon capacity

I didn't know they made 40 gallon tanks, wish my 91 had that extra capacity! They only show one size tank strap, wonder what dimension nets the extra capacity.

That is correct. There is also a difference in height which the 40 gal straps work with because of the longer strap length. The 40 gal straps are not pictured in the LMC catalog. Because of the tank length difference, I don't think you could just put in a 40 gal tank to upgrade. The frame mounting must be different.

You have to move the rear crossmember. Bolt it in with grade 8 hardware.
Throwing a 40 in my 90 diesel.

Mine is a 40. Can't even fill it up now since the damn pump cuts me off at $100.

Mine cuts off at $150, I still have to restart to finish filling up.
I have 3 suburban, all with the 40gal.
84 diesel, 89 gas and 96 gas.
I wouldn't have it any other way.
31gal is the other option and it would be too small for me

Off topic, but there use to be a company that made a larger (maybe 35-40gal?) tank that would fit a blazer I believe, but i think they went out of business quite a while ago.

I've had 6 different Suburbans, all of them had a 40gal tank. I still find it crazy that there are oddballs out there with the 31gal tank. I also think it's crazy that the 40 was not standard equipment by '91.

I remember that you could once get oversize tanks from JC Whitney. Iirc, they offered a 40+ gallon tank for the K5.

My 90 burb with the 6.2 diesel has a 31 gal...wierdness...

It's been discussed here before. You can't fit a 40-gal Sub tank in a K5. I get tired of searching old threads for people...

I had 40-gal tank once by mistake and comparing it up with the space in my K5 was silly. But others have posted up the real dimensions already to show why it's highly impractical - even with spacing the rear bumper back. Haven't you noticed the giant rear overhang in a Sub?

I hadn't really ever given it that much thought. I thought the second set of doors was the difference in the wheel base, and that the large capacity tanks were just taller. I have never owned a K5

Yes the difference between the 25 and the 31 gal, is in the height.
But not the 40 gal

Found it! Aero still makes it, for anyone interested. 40gal. Not sure why the year cuts off at ‘85, because it also says EFI. I’m sure it would work through 91. Requires removal of trailer hitch.

Probably should call them to confirm. It says replaces plastic tank and in the picture the sending unit is in the corner?
