I reread 1st post cause I have CRS ( can't remember s*&^ ) Is the red brake light still on dim ? If so that says to me the brake warning circuit is shorted to ground. Since it is dim it may be grounding though another circuit before the load. could be mid loom melty issue, might be printed circuit on instrument panel.
The intermittent nature of this symptom makes it difficult to find. My best tool would be to have engine running and move the crap outta everything, under dash and hood till it fails, then go from there.

. I thought I had. I have seen loose battery cable on the starter lug many times, esp on chevy V8, since they are hard to get to tighten. I have even seen them loose on Toyota's 4 cylinder that aren't hard to get to. So I believe it has something to with heat cycles, causing them to loosen.
