I'm thinking about upgrading to a bigger truck for hauling my horses. Anyone have any idea what a 1992 chevy silverado blazer 4x4 might go for? its got the 5.7TBI 700-r4. its got 96k original miles on the truck. the tranny was professionally rebuilt 6k miles ago, the top of the engine was gone thru (cam, valves, waterpump, etc) its been chipped, and a ton of other stuff has been replaced. VG condition except for paint (typical GM peel from that era) AC works, radio works, full guage package, 4x4 works. Runs really well. Anyone got any idea what I should ask for this? Thanks!

What are you hauling with now, and what kind of trailer are you pulling?

I used to have a 92 Yukon. I towed a 18' flatbed with cars on it, towed pretty good but sometimes the trailer would want to pass me on the highway. That got a little scary. :haha:C oulda used a lot more power though.

Horses? You need a 3/4 ton truck.

Wheelbase is your friend for serious towing. I had a 94 just like you are discussing, and would tow boats often with it, but it got a little hairy with the larger 5,000lb boats.

I would be looking at at least a 3/4 ton truck if horses are you main game. If you NEED an enclosed SUV, 3/4 ton suburban is your best bet.

In most cases, Chipped = 93 octane. If you get it, unchip it, unless it can run 87 chipped (which I seriously doubt)

And that is a 1/2 ton truck, you need 3/4 ton like others have stated.

Hey guys, the way I read it he owns the 92 Blazer and is asking how much to sell it for so he can buy a bigger truck.

10 people scan and reply, and you are the first one to read the thread!:haha:

Depending on condition, you are in the 2-3k range.

I swear I read his post like three times and just realized what he was asking. :haha:

I just re-read it. honestly, it could go either way. He could have a mini truck and was wanting to upgrade to the blazer.

nvrenuf - thank you! yeah - honestly, i thought i was pretty clear. :dunno: i have a 1500, i'm looking to upgrade, and i want to know what i should ASK for the 1500! I realize i need a 3/4 ton. But I want to sell mine 1st. I've been hauling the horses with it, but its at the max for handling and braking, and i've decided that though this has been a great truck, I need something bigger, esp up here in colorado springs. Altitude eats HP.

So - with the low miles, and all the improvements listed, only $3k? Ouch.....

What are you hauling? heavy steel trailer? alloy? and as always PICS RULE! :thumb:

but as a rule you want to go overboard with live loads. even slight shifting is something you want to overpower.

Really though post some pics of your setup.:waytogo:

what price?

guys - i am not looking for people to improve, or upgrade my CURRENT rig. I am looking for what price to ask for my 1992 Blazer.....

I don't know of pics will help. There's tons of those things available for $3k. I even see a 3/4 ton suburban for sale locally for $2500.

Since t's got all of this I would shoot for $3500. You likely won't get that much for it since gas prices are going up again but it will leave you some negotiating room. I would figure if you ask $3500 for it, after haggling with the potential buyer a bit, you could realistically get $2000-$2500 for it.

ok - thanks. Thats really sad. Since stepping up to 6.6 or 8.1 is going to be like $12-15k! (and they all seem to have REALLY high mileage!) But driving mine in the wind with a trailer can get really scary. And when is it NOT windy in Colorado???

To the right buyer it could easily be worth more. If the interior is in good shape and there is no rust that helps. You may want to consider a cheapo paint job, could definitely help move it, and for a better price.

FWIW, KBB private party values range from $1500 (fair condition) to $2270 (excellent condition) for a '92 Blazer Silverado with 96K. Not that those prices are set in stone, but it's definitely a baseline to consider, especially with gas creeping up (again). Receipts for the work done might help with getting a higher price.

I'm not sure how many folks actually use the KBB values, but I always check them out if I'm seriously considering a vehicle.
