So here's the story... I got this k5 from my brother who told me the tranny went out and because of the way he works, never had time to fix it. So it sat......for 8 years... until he finally gave into my begging and gave it to me since I have the time and ability to fix it. I had to pretty much rebuild the top end, flushed every line and I replace just about everything but holy sweetness, it was the most beuteeeful sound in the world to hear her fire up. After a few minutes of blowing out the cob webs, she maintained her idle. Can u say Happy Dance? SO... upon getting her running again, I decided to go ahead and go thru the gears expecting SOME kind of noise indicating the tranny problem. Nope. Nada. Nothing. No noise. No knock. Just nothing BUT... the gears do not engage. I've gone from front to back without actually dropping anything for close inspection, trying to get an idea of where to start and what to look for first. I'm here trying to get an opinion from other people to see if anyone thinks the way I do. What she's doing has me thinking it's the shifter cable? Again... this thing has sat for 8 years. ANY input is greatly appreciated.

So if I understand it won't go into gear and move?

Transmissions don't always make noise when they go out.

He said the trans was blown, do I would rebuild the transmission or at least remove and disassemble it.

You can check the transfer case make sure it's in gear.
