TBI and transmissions are not my strongest areas of knowledge.

Here is the connector to the transmission:

This are pics from a garage post.

Can I use the TBI, ECM and harness for a 1993 GM (electronic transmission - 4L60E or 4L80E) on my 79 w/TH350 without problems? The pics above is the connector that hooks to the 1993 full electronic transmission.

My main question is about the transmission controls and possible error codes.

You probably could and have it run ok but it would set trans codes. You'd be better off finding a computer and wiring harness from an earlier truck. If you can get the 93 setup for super cheap then it would be worth it to have spare parts, otherwise it's a waste of time and money IMO.

New question -

I found a wiring harness for an 87. I am going to ebay up the 1993 harness, ECM, cruise and everything else attached except for the TBI stuff.

I found a computer that was in an 89 Chev truck with a TH400. Would that work correctly, without mods, straight up, without throwing error codes on my TH350?

That will work, make sure the 87 harness has the knock module because the '93 doesn't have an external knock module. The TPS will likely be different between 87 and 93 but is easy to change the connector to adapt to the newer style TPS. Everything else should be the same.
