does anybody know where is the best place too buy (black box) i think its called fsd or psd thats bolted too a electronic fuel pomp .its for a 1994 6.5na. would like to relocate on fender with heat sink. which company would have a good product at a reasonable price.

I've heard of Pensacola. I noticed they are way lower priced for everything cummins related. But I've heard there is a reason for that.

I dont know about cummins. We are talking about Detroit Diesel.
IMO i dont like the SS PMD manifold mounted heat sink. the top of the intake is one of the the hottest part of the engine. It is no better and probabally worse than the stock mounted on the IP. Where at least you have fuel to cool it instead of very hot air. Why mount it there? Heat kills the PMD. Better to mount it outside of the engine compartment. where you can get nice cool air.

that SS is not mounted to the manifold. its on its own bracket with the sink that you put on the inner fender. comes with the harness extender too. I helped buddy install it. easy as pie.

Detroit doesn't have any ownership in the 5.7, 6.2 or 6.5 diesels. the 6.2 happens to be based on the Detroit 8.2L fuel pincher - by virtue of GM ownership. but the 6.2 and 6.5 aren't Detroits.

thanks for your replies, pensacola kit seems like a good deal. worth while too pay the difference for the ssdiesel supply, what have you heard about the cummings . don.t really mine paying the difference if i know its better in the long run.

but the 6.2 and 6.5 aren't Detroits.
????? Detroit Diesel designed and manufactured the 6.2 until GM spun off Detroit Diesel in 1988. Gm kept the rights to the engine and the plant that manufactured the 6.2.
The 6.5 is just a Detroit designed 6.2 block with over bore and longer stroke.
Because the 5.7 diesel designed and manufactured by GMs Oldsmobile division was such a failure. GM went to their Detroit Diesel division at the time and commissioned them to design a dependable fuel efficient engine for light truck use. The 6.2 was the result of Detroits work.
If Detroit designed and manufactured the 6.2... I dont understand how that makes it Not a detroit?
Granted the 6.5 was produced by GM, after GM spun off Detroit. But it is still basicly the same 6.2 engine that Detroit built and designed.

IMO weather mounted on the manifold or on the inner fender the PMD is still subject to too high of temps. All the air under the hood is drawn thru the radiator. temps can easily exceed 200*. Which is too much for cooling a PMD. Maby it will work OK for you guys up in the great white north. But down here where it gets hot. under hood mounting will kill a PMG id a short time. Especially when towing.
Outside the engine compartment is the best place to remote mount the PMD.

I understand detroit designed the engine. based on the 8.2L 4stroke V8 DDC released in 1980. but what i'm saying is. the 5.7/6.2/6.5 doesn't exist to a Detroit dealer. so IMO its not really a Detroit. its a GM engine.

Its just because of what I see 1st hand. The outfit I mechanic for has been a Detroit dealer since 1946. and I work with 3 guys that have been on staff since the mid to late 70's. none have seen a 5.7/6.2/6.5 in the shop. there isn't a shred of literature on the shelves about them, leads me to say they are not a Detroit. To me, doesn't really matter what the internet says. its what I see.

I make my living almost exclusively on Series 60s.

hey demon we have an egr 14L 2005 sterling .its dead doesn,t pull been playing around with difference ecm programs . must off replaced the turbo about 4 times and all sorts off check engine problems. me and my brother were thinging off pulling all that junk off and install an older model head like the 575, to get rid off the egr crap,i,m sure we would gain a mile or so to the gallon. ever here or know of anybody doing this. warrenty is over .

yes I know trucks that have the DDEC IV EGR defeated. you don't change the head though. remove the egr valve, bellows, delta P sensor, the venturi tubes, and cap the exhaust manifold. leave the EGR cooler on so you don't have to replumb the coolant from the water pump to the oil cooler. and seal the intake pipe. now thats the easy part. the tricky part is finding someone who has cracked the DDEC programming to disable the nessisary sensors. I can't do it with the factory DDDL program.

I know 1 guy in northern Alberta that has that capability. now be 100% aware if you're running licensed commercial and have the emmisions defeated on a truck that is within an EPA tier and DOT snags you and finds it. the fines are not light. but on that note, the MPG gains are much higher than 1. you'll be running in the 8-9 MPG loaded range on the highway.

this guy is running licensed 121,000lbs with a swapping in 14L series 60 EGR disabled, much more hot rodding dynoed 1400hp. but he's doing pistons every couple years or less.

were making between 3.5 to 4.5 miles per gallon were always either pulling a hill or on compression, trucks are park for the thaw will only start up mid june when forest dirt roads are dry enought. with our old 12L we would make alot better i beleave it was almost 6. almost hit a 1000000 km with the old volvo autocar, and 29000hrs.were averaging about 30 miles an hour. so what about the turbo, talk to my brother about this today, maybe we could figure out a way too program the ecm,or talks to the guy in norther alberta.

Oh you're hauing wood to the mills

you could be going into engine Derate. have you hooked a computer up to it and pulled the codes? you have DDEC V engine. the EGR valves are common to fail. and the cooler not as often. and exhaust manifold leaks. will cause you grief with Egr temps. if you're getting high EGR temps or the egr valve is seized the engine will derate for protection. or you could have a bad wire in the sensor harness causing you grief.

well were not sure what road we will take.warrenty is over the dealership is so so! over warrenty they replaced so many turbos ,injectors and all sorts off programation were tried. one year ago on the last shift a valve broke ruinning the head and 2 cylinders,we paid to replace the 4 other ones. so motor should be healty. since we have about 2 months down time before its back on the job,we were kind of interested in pulling that egr crap out!!! you say it can be done with out replacing head so thats even more interesting.my brother is the one who does all the maintence he would like to have more information. he was asking if he could talk to you on the phone, and maybe with your guy in northern alberta. we get our programation done in montreal.its a ddec v
