OK so what I am wanting to do is mate a NV4500 from a 1998 K2500 with 6.5 Diesel to an old small block 383. Will I need an adapter for this or will the tranny bolt up to the 383?

The bellhousing will bolt up, but you'll need to use a small block flywheel and clutch components.

OK, I read in 1996 they went to a Dodge bolt pattern bell housing. Is this where the bell housing bolts to the tranny or where the bell housing bolts to engine?

Yes, in 96 the trans to bell pattern changed. Be warned that those bellhousings use an internal slave cylinder which some people don't like.

Yes, I know about the PIA slave, and Im sure its leaking. But as long as it will bolt up and work with a 383, I'll be happy. Pretty much what Im thinking of doing is take this 300K mile ranch truck that the diesel died in and drop in the built 383 I have just sitting in my garage. Throw on a body lift, and some 37's and hit the mud holes. Or if I find someone getting rid of an 8 lug front axle I might do a SAS. Either that or find someone to tow it out of my driveway.

As mentioned above, the transmission will bolt directly up to your 383, and the internal slave cylinder does play nice with the factory smallblock clutch & flywheel.

That said, while the NV4500 is an extremely beefy transmission, it drives like the medium duty transmission it is, don't expect it to shift like the light duty 5 speeds do!

Cool, thanks. Ya I drove it when the 6.5 was still running. Motor was tired but could crawl in 1st and still cruise at under 2000 RPM on freeway.

what happened to the 6.5.....

My R-tard brother drives it, knew it leaked oil but never checked or added oil so it eventually ran out and motor go bye bye. First thing I did was check the dipstick, and it was dry. He looks at it and says "I checked the oil like 2 months ago..." :doah::smokin2:
