Anybody know much about these cars?

Son is looking at one. It reportedly as a blown head gasket. Clean car in good shape other than that..... Maybe.....

My buddy had one, it was a POS. I knew guys in high school that had them, no problems. Sooooo. Not really any help:-(

My wife had a '97 Sebring with the 2.5 V6 when we met. She sold it at 117K miles (probably too soon to have any issues), but the engine never really gave her any trouble up to then. However, there were several electronic sensor type gremlins that were a pain to figure out (i.e. Automatic Shut Down Relay comes to mind- intermittently makes the car not start with no OBD codes). There is a strong Mitsubishi influence in these cars so parts and labor (if you pay someone) can add up fast. I don't know if the 2.5 is like the later 2.7, but the 2.7 has notoriously narrow oil passages that like to clog with poor maintenance (to the point that most Junk yards are reluctant to sell a used 2.7L V6.

Talked to our mechanic that works on Tracy's van. Its a Dodge Caravan from 1997.

He seemed to think they were a decent engine. Wasn't familiar with any recurring problems with them. I didn't lead him to any conclusions and let him tell me about his experiences in the repair biz.

Seems he's addressed a good many issues with them but pretty much all over the map. Nothing that would suggest a bad design.

I worked at a garage part time until last month, a local company had a dozen of them and the problems they had were from driver abuse..lol . They didnt have one under 150,000 miles, other than trans and axle shafts going bad the only other thing went bad was they ate rear brakes...

Dads on his second one. Timing belt at 100k always. Cars basically a little POS but not the worst. It revs out real high on the highway so dont expect longevity.
