My wife had a '97 Sebring with the 2.5 V6 when we met. She sold it at 117K miles (probably too soon to have any issues), but the engine never really gave her any trouble up to then. However, there were several electronic sensor type gremlins that were a pain to figure out (i.e. Automatic Shut Down Relay comes to mind- intermittently makes the car not start with no OBD codes). There is a strong Mitsubishi influence in these cars so parts and labor (if you pay someone) can add up fast. I don't know if the 2.5 is like the later 2.7, but the 2.7 has notoriously narrow oil passages that like to clog with poor maintenance (to the point that most Junk yards are reluctant to sell a used 2.7L V6.
