I have two trucks, both are 1998s. One is a 2500 Silverado ext cab and the other is a 3500 Cheyenne crew cab, both are 4x4 automatics. I'm thinking of swapping the engines between them, Vortec 454 and Vortec 350

I'd imagine it would be a pretty simple swap since the trucks are very similar other than the small/big blocks. I can only keep one truck and would rather like the big block crew cab combo.

Both trucks are 8 lug, 14bolt full floaters, 4.10 gears, 4x4, 4L80E, hydroboost, additional hd coolers. The 2500 has a New Process push button and the 3500 has a Borg Warner manual transfer cases, T

Am i oversimplifying this and missing anything major?

Computers would be my question ❓.....

would expect to swap them too.

I think since you have both donor trucks you should be able to swap all the wiring over to make it work. I think it will take longer than you think because of the wiring but it should be doable if you take your time and do it right.

In the square body era..... A gm harness could be split at the bulkhead..... And a different harness plugged in....

IF both share the same circuits it should be a simple unplug the original 5.7 engine harness and connect the 7.4 engine harness to the bulkhead.

Thanks guys...

I'm thinking the PCMs and matching harness would need to be swapped. I'd imagine that the trucks would be pinned similarly at the firewall plug?

This is a stock 98 Vortec harness, possibly a 5.7 looking at the injector connector.
