Tomorrow - and against all my survival instincts - I am going to look at a friend's '98 Yukon that is stuck in 4L.
He's stuck in The Big Hole - some 75 miles from here and I don't know for sure what the problem is so I need a little insight.
I'm not particularly versed in this unit as I quit working on most vehicles in August 2004 and these were pretty much still under factory warranty at that time.
All the sites I visited so far say that if the lights on the dashboard switch(es) is(are) NOT working, then neither is the Auto/4H/4L.
OTOH - HE - the owner - says that there have never - ever been any lights on or close to those switches. Is this the truth - Yea or Nay?
He says that the Service Transfer Case light is on though..... is this a scan-able code I can pull?
I also hear about a faulty ground under the driver's door - I think they said at the K5 joint. I've never found those frame designations to be very valuable* - so is there any insight into what the factory means?
[* For instance - according to factory bulletins as dictated by my scanner, there is supposed to be a ground failure on the B2 frame area for my wife's 2000 Astro and it likes to turn off the ABS whenever it feels like it - but usually over a bump. To date, I have not found any external ground wire on the ABS module at all, not to mention a B2 spot]
I digress. On to the K1500 again.....
On good ol' Google, I found a video that is supposed to tell me about the lights and stuff, and the switches are where I remember them on my buddy's K1500 - so in that case there ARE lights in them and yet I have never seen them nor has my buddy. Whazzupwiththat?
So - before this gets dumber and dumber, I'll stick with the questions I've asked so far and any help will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
