My 20 year old plastic dash is cracking into oblivion. Lmc truck, rock auto for example sell a cover but not a full replacement. The replacement cover involve glueing it right oem dash... Which seems hackish at best.

How difficult is it to remove the dashboard? Would like to understand it before I tackle it on donor truck.

My son just swapped the dash in an '01 that I bought. It was easier that I expected after he figured it out last year while parting one out.
Pull the passenger side air vents by prying them out. Pull the cluster bezel by pulling around the perimeter. You will need to have the automatic transmission shifter in low for this. Start looking for and removing screws that hold the dash. There are push clips under the top edge around the cluster and radio opening. Screws under the passenger side vents. Remove "A" pillar trim by pulling inward at the top. Pull the fuse cover, remove the 2 screws, same thing on the passenger side.
The passenger grab handle has quick release tabs that you reach through the vent openings, kinda like headrest posts.
I believe that it should be getting loose by now, but I can't remember every detail. Then you have to lift it up slightly, as little as possible to clear the front panel, then pull away from the windshield.
There are tabs which go into catch clips by the pinch weld. THEY STICK HARD! They may often break off. If you could get a long reach hook up there to loosen them, it could help.
I used a slow set silicone to reattach mine. It took days to cure, and then I used silcone lube on the rubber pads when going back in.
The light sensor in the middle is a quarter turn to remove.

Hope this helps, but I didn't bother taking pictures, and we just threw out the old one yesterday, not broken, just loosing the color coat. Looks like the same color as yours.

You may be able to find a video on YouTube to help, not sure.
