So I bought this van and the owner said it will start with the starting fluid then it will run forever.
True enough so I got it and trying to figure out why.
I checked the fuel pressure and it is right at 58psi and it doesn't drop after 10 minutes, battery was a little weak so I changed it, no change.
I know that the injectors on these engines are problematic but I have only seen them misfire one or 2.
This new to me.
Anyway I already had planned to upgrade to the better setup so I bought them but still not had time to put them on.
Anyone care to venture and analyze why it wouldn't start but once it did it runs fine and smooth?
Hopefully at the end of the week I can put the new injectors and see if it solved the problem.
My buddy insisted it's the pump because he read somewhere anything under 60psi is not enough.
I know not a single regulator from gm is 60 psi so 58 is just fine.
Could it be the IAC, or any other sensor that is not working?

scan the temp the ecm is getting cold. May not be pulsing the injectors correctly for start up. IAC is suspicious too, if it doesn't set itself for start up but is set for idle.

Ok, I will see if my scan tool can show the temp.
How do I test the IAC?

I would pull it and use a 12v to make move in and out, if my scan tool was unable to command it. Still pull it so you can watch the pintle.

Is it cycling the pump to prime?
Yes it cycles the pump for 2 seconds.
I purged the pressure, hooked the gauge, turned the key and it jumped to 58 and stayed there.
I tried starting and nothing changed, ignition off it held for 30 minutes and didn't change, then I left

If it doesn’t power the injector on cranking, then check to see if it gets cranking signal

another iac check is to crack the throttle while you crank the engine if it starts the IAC was stuck or not positioned by the ecm

I think those engines are sequential, which means they need a cam signal to fire the injectors. Maybe that signal is weak at cranking rpms. Any DTCs? Have you checked the fuses and relays? Perhaps injector power comes from 2 different sources? You should be able to measure 12V at the injector during crank.

I will be doing some checking hopefully today, fuses and power at the injectors
