I just realized we don't have any stickies on this forum. This struck me as odd because the 1st gen's are a peculiar bunch.

We could have all kinds of stuff, so here are some ideas:
1. A list of 1st gen specific products from CK5 vendors. This would be a quick and easy way of seeing what is available to us. Also, it might get a bit more attention from vendors so they could start making stuff for us that isn't being offered elsewhere (I was just on Kurt's site and he has a few things. I know Stephen has a few too.).

2. A 1st gen FAQ. This could include stuff like double wall vs. single wall tops, an overview of why putting a 1st gen body on a 2nd gen frame is tough, 1st gen soft top info, a general "don't bite off more than you can chew" blip for first timers, etc.

3. Link to write-ups on the most common or most requested mods (especially if they have 1st gen twists). Things like 56" rear springs, 52" front springs, custom dashes/gauge clusters, fitting a BBC, etc.

4. References to specific pic threads. Topless 1st gen's with rollcages, 1st gen front and rear bumpers, 1st gen specific x" lift and xx" tires, 1st gen fender trimming, sliders, etc.

I realize some of these ideas are better than others, but what do you guys think? What would you like to see stickied? Seems it would really help guys who are just getting exposed to these cool trucks (as well as me). Would this be helpful or a giant waste of time?

Just throwing this out there. If you don't like it, send it back.

The "Cancer Support Thread" was a sticky forever.....but over time all the photo links became broken. I'd asked everyone to repair the links to keep the thread useful, but most of the people who'd contributed have disappeared.

I unstuck the link and let it fade into obscurity... I'm not a big fan of forums with a half-dozen stickies at the top, especially when they aren't maintained regularly.

Fair enough, I guess I can just put together the info I am looking for and track it that way. I just figured there might be more who could benefit than just me.

Encourages Discussion

Nobody has ever given me grief about asking basic questions and So not having stickies does encourage people to post ask and reply to stuff when it comes up...

But I like the idea too.

A bunch of boards I read have gotten that way lately. Between the page header and the stickies I cannot even see the new posts until I scroll down some. Just one FAQ sticky with links inside to the threads would be OK in my book.

I wouldn't be opposed to a single sticky "Index" for common tech questions or whatever. If someone wants to create the content and search for all the relevant links, I'll create a "locked" sticky for this forum.

I think AJ's 1-Ton Booster upgrade was a good writeup as an example....Good photos and clear explanations. Anyone else want to create some new "tech" content, maybe just distill some existing content into something more concise? :deal:

You can find most of what you need by searching. But, as one of less mechanically inclined guys in here I like to be able to post up questions to routine type stuff when I feel like talking about my truck and not get flamed. That's what's cool about the 1st gen forum and makes it more of a little community than just a web reference.

The idea of a simple index thread makes sense though.

True.

I'd like to think that this sub-forum is even more tolerant than the usual CK5 forums when it comes to noob questions... or maybe it's that the 1st Gen owners don't just throw out a bunch of questions and expect everyone else here to spoon-feed them the answers? :dunno:

Seems like some good ideas. One possibility is having something like the thread in the garage, "Post yer part Numbers" where we can go into the thread an psot all "new" info on parts, suppliers, products, etc. We all could keep a thread like that fairly close to the top with new stuff every week or just give a quick TTT to keep it near the top of the first page. Just a thought.
