I'm finally trying to paint my kids top. problem is I dont know what paints will work good on fiberglass. Will any paint work or should I use a certain type? cheap, but works, is the key. its not a show truck and we're going with a flat, matte, or hotrod black. thanks for any help

Properly prepped fiberglass will take any paint that properly prepped metal will take. Your choice, the prep is the hardest part.

cool. I was told a long time ago that it had to have flex agent and all kinds of wierd stuff:dunno: never looked into it before

I've heard of flex agents for trim and rubber bumpers but never for fiberglass. Maybe I'm just not familiar with fiberglass history but when it's done right, fiberglass isn't that flexible on a k5 top.

I just cleaned my topper, and shot it with Krylon Fusion.

You could use an HVLP, and shoot it cheaper.

I'll have to look at paint again then:waytogo: I was about to spend $150 for 2k epoxy stuff. Glad I decided to ask:haha:

my fiberglass top flexes quite a bit...not sure what kind of paint would be best, but I will find out before I do mine and put all that work into it just to see it crack the first time it flexes when I pull it off or put it on....keep in mind though, mine is the full vert top which may be way more flexible than a standard Blazer top...

I was just thinking how surprised i was that Ryoken hasn't replied to this and then remembered why. Doah!

All those "paintless dent removal" services do pretty amazing stuff with metal fenders without a crack in the paint so I suspect most modern paints flex quite a bit without cracking.

I agree, I think the full vert ones probably flex more than the half tops. thats why I was wondering.

I used rustoleum white and just rolled it on with a foam roller. No cracks and went on easy.
