My brother just bought a '69 K5.... doesn't have the truck yet (being shipped) but he has this VIN:

BKE1495863781

Is the format incorrect or unusual? He is getting 'invalid' results trying to decode it on the web....

Thanks!!!

Thanks for the quick response... but it still doesn't quite work out. The page I am directed to says:

"All 1967 through 1972 Chevrolet 10 through 30 trucks are identified by this model designation system"

Isn't a '69 Blazer a K5? Meaning '5' not 10 trough 30?

'cause the numbers still don't figure.... the example they give is:

Example: C E 517 03

Which is a bit shorter than the VIN he was given.

huh.

The truck is being shipped from Cali to Alabama right now, and is already paid for... I just don't want him to have any odd surprises.

Forget the "B" on the frontend, I believe it's a '69 thing. The vin looks good to me K meaning it's a 4wd and the "E" being the engine designation, 8 cyl I believe. I forget what the 14 is for but the "9" is designating 1969 as the year model. All in all, He should be in good shape.

Here is what I get out of the LMC catalog

B - shouldn't be there vin should be 12 characters

K - 4 wheel Drive

E - 8 Cylinder

1 - 1/2 ton 3900 go 5800 GVW

4 - cab amd stepside pickup box

9 - 1969 model year

5 - (I think this is probably an S) Assembly plant S is St. Louis

863781 - Sequential production #

Thanks for the help, you guys rock.

BTW, this should be an interesting vehicle... PO has a auto shop of some sort and (over) built this truck... apparently a lot of $ and time in the drivetrain. I believe you folks will see some pics (and maybe a new member) shortly.

Thanks again!
