Noob seriously looking at getting a k5 to restore for daily driver/family hauler/moderate trail use. I really like the looks of the 1st gen. Do the changes to the rear seat floor with the 2d gen make that much of a difference? And how hard is climbing in and out of the rear seat for either generation? I got into the back seat of a bronco--once--and hope not to put any passengers through a similar experience. Thanks.

For a lifted 1st Gen truck it's usually easier to climb into the rear by stepping on the rear tire and swinging a leg over the bedrail.

Seriously.

The "flip forward" passenger seat works great on a stock truck, but when you're lifted there's nothing to hold on to and it's a long stretch to get that first leg up and into that small climbthrough area.

The first gen seats are basically the same as the '73-'77 seats. '78 got a revised seat release lever, revised rear floor, and revised rear seat. Getting in and out of both versions is about the same, but the '78 and later stuff is more user friendly. And the rear passengers have MUCH better foot room and head room.

I totally agree with Greg. That's how my wife gets into ours almost all the time. I do this in tight parking spots as well because mine is a pain to get into the front seats. I have a pretty sweet 'step back and jump' thing that works well when there's room:D

Gotta remember though, mine's on 40's... Stock I can't see it being bad at all.
USSkoval's point about the head and leg room is more the problem. I've got two kids approaching their teens who are going to be tall. I've got a feeling Mrs. Davebud will lobby for the 78+.
