Been a member here for almost a year now and figured I'd make a 1st post haha. I first registered to check out the site and start reading up on what I wanted. 5 years ago my dad gave me his Suburban as a graduation gift from bootcamp. Well I've been stationed in Virginia the whole time and the Burb's been sitting at my Dad's place in Oklahoma. I drive it everytime I go on leave, and keep up on maintenance. So.......I decided to finally post because I am getting orders to transfer to Recruiting duty in Oklahoma. Long story short, 5 years ago I started a Burban-Build savings fund which is now at about 6 grand. Plans still need some ironing out but I want to do everything right the first time and not build it wishing I would have done things differently. Basics include a D60/14BFF combo, ~8in. of lift, and at least 38's. Here's how it sits right now 87 1/2 ton TBI/700r4 4in on 33-12.5's. Once I get home and start ripping it apart, interior will be stripped and Line-X'd with a cage. I will most likely start a build thread once I get going on it.

Yeah, when I made my screen name I had toyed with the idea of painting it black but ditched that idea a while back. So stuck with blackbourbon haha. I transfer in a couple months and 5 years of waiting to build it are killin' me. I'm sure I'll be posting a lot with a bunch of questions once it gets a little closer. I love the Burb because I can fit a whole crew of people and a ton of gear. It's a barndoor too :D. I just wish they made a 42" bogger.

Wow, that is one very clean Burb! Looks like you've got some great plans for it! :waytogo:

Thanks man. My Dad bought it back in 1998 and it's faired really good over the past 10 years. The interior is pretty worn out, which is the only reason I'm stripping it. But the body is in real nice shape. I took the running boards off the last time I was down there, expecting to find some good rocker and fender rust.........none! No real rust anywhere on the thing. Not totally unexpected since we lived in Nevada when we bought it. I am itchin' to get started on this thing. Right before I came into the Navy, I sold my 76 K5:mad::doah:

So, finally got my orders. I'll be transferring on July 1st, can't wait to get started on the burb after 5 years waiting:D

Officer or enlisted recruiter? Good luck and have a good time. ;)

Nice 'Burb.

Enlisted. Thanks, I'm lookin forward to it. I leave here at midnight on Monday. The wife flew down a few days ago to scout out a few houses before I get there. I told her to pick whatever she wanted as long as it had a large garage/shopbuilding:D. Can't wait to get to work on it, it's been a long wait. The last time I was down it was having some running problems ie: hunting at idle, stumbling acceleration, etc. I replaced the MAP sensor and O2 sensor, and that helped ALOT but still was having issues after warm-up. I figured the cat was clogged( I could put my hand over the tailpipe and it would almost die haha). I was only down for a couple days last time so I didnt get a chance to mess with it. I had my Dad cut the cat off and weld in a straight piece a few eeks ago and he said it helped a bunch but still not running up to par. I'll figure it out when I get there, can't exactly troubleshoot it from 1500 miles away. I think it might be an ECU issue(it got a little wet about a year ago in a pond......:haha:)

Finally getting started:D Tomorrow morning I'm gonna look at a truck with some 1-tons I can snag. Also running by and grabbing a few things from the junkyard, maybe I can find an ECU. The interior is way worse than I remembered so it's definitely gettin' stripped.

Well, as always, the Burb got put on hold last summer because of numerous things........
But finally got to kick it in gear and hopefully she should be wheelin' here in a few short weeks. I picked up a D60/14FF combo last weekend, and these were waiting for me when I got home today. More boxes should start showing up and I'll be busy wrenchin'. I'm stoked!!:D
