2.2 Mods

My old man just bought an 03 S10 with a 2.2 and 5 speed its ok for pep but it definatly doesnt have any extra power.

Does anyone make a chip to crank it up a little bit. Im probably going to put a K&N on it for sure. Id love to talk in into a less restrictive muffler but he hates anything loud...MY TRUCKS

personally, id look into the stage II GMPerformance parts kit, from the guys at the dealership ive talked to, the stage two setup on the cobalt SS was putting out near 250hp at the wheels with bigger injectors, a smaller SC pully, and a re-program. I would be willing to bet the setup could be fitted to the S10 drivetrain.

Bout all you can do are the basic ricer mods. Cold air intake, headers and exhaust.. There is no chip. You have to have the ECM re programed.
I bet your dad woild just love a nice loud fart can with a 6" tip.

Look at the exhaust. See if it's crimp bent or mandrel bent, in good condition or not, and if it's stainless steel or not. That vintage should have a stainless steel mandrel bent system around 2" wide or so. Perfect size and configuration for that engine. All it needs is a freer flowing muffler if the pipe is in good shape. Throw on a Gibson or one of the quieter Flowmasters and it'd definitely gain a little pep without being too loud.
I've done this on a few vehicles and it almost always ended up with a "seat of the pants" increase in power. Not a super charger but definitely there.
Depending on the mileage might be time to look for a new cat as well.

Since he's not going offroad...anything that would help it suck in more cold air would be good.

Anything beyond these mods will cost money and require more in depth work. How much does he want to spend/do?

This is a daily driver bought for mileage and work. It wont see any wheeling its a 2wd and he doesnt wheel. He hasnt owned a 4wd since before I was born...hes gone some nuts places with a 2wd on the farm though!

Hes didnt say much about putting money into it, its more or less something Im just going to do without telling him as a surprise for all hes helped me out with stuff. Its got 162,000 on it but it was all highway miles(he knew the previous owner well)

Cat might be in order but I might just throw on a cold air intake and muffler for now and see where it gets us.
