Has anyone done this? How much lift? Pictures?

FYI....I had 52" stockers up front on my old truggy, so I'm familiar with the process, just wondered about aftermarket lift springs.

a 2" lift 52 will give you 6-7" of lift where a 4" lift 52 will give you a solid 9".

This is information relayed by customers using lift springs in the front. I haven't personally done it.

I would like to know what kind of flex you get from say a 4" front 52. I imagine they are flex but not as much as normal

I think K5 Krawler 50 did some 4" 52's on the front of his. I know it came out pretty hi cause he is clearing 44's. I remember there were some issues with spring length though as the higher arched springs are actually longer along the main leaf so he ended up with a real bad shackle angle. I think he ended up moving the shackle back to stock location. I'll see if i can find the post.

edit here is the post. He was using 8" lift 52's though

Here's mine, 2.5" Superlift 52's (with the overloads removed) on the front with 7.25 shackles. The tires are 42" TSL's.

As you can see, the shackle angle on mine is not that good. When I moved my shackle I pivoted it forward on the lower front bolt (I think I got the idea from one of the original 52" swaps). This works well on stock springs but my lifted springs are slightly shorter from eye to eye (presumably due to the increased arch). Anyway, if I had it to do again I would move the shackle further forward and use a longer shackle.

Good to see some old timers posting up.

Anyways, I'm waaaay off from doing anything about my ponderings, perhaps it won't happen period. After all, I haven't been deployed yet, I'm sure a trip to Iraq is in my near future, maybe I'll get blowed up over there. :eek1::haha:

After tax time next year I was hoping to pick up a V30 crewcab to tinker with. Something that could possibly be a tow rig/weekend wheeler and be daily driver capable as well. 37-40" rubber. Would also need to be family friendly, got a wife and three boys now. :eek1: Does anyone run the lifted 52's on a truck that sees regular street time? How do they ride? My wife has a titanium? I think, rod in her back that runs from her butt crack to the base of her neck, (scoliosis when she was young) so she needs something that would ride decent. Maybe some custom Deaver or Alcan springs?

It's kinda fun to get back into thinkin about this stuff after so long, even if it is web wheelin' style. :haha:

I can't report on ride characteristics or flex since mine isn't running yet.

If you need a smooth ride I would go with stock 52's. I did a SAS on my 98 and used these. Drove like a Cadi and Did just fine on the street and Freeway. I looked into the alcan deaver springs, but Just didn't see the money going into those.

mine with 3" 56's up front, close to same flex as 52's

I think your shackle angle looks pretty good. It's past vertical so it already on the compression travel so it will work good. Nice part is, you'll have a good amount of shackle travel before the spring flattens out.

That's where i like mine.

As mtblazer said, i am running 8" lift tc springs up front.. and i still rub 44's pretty bad without cutting. I dont have a front dshaft yet so no hardcore flex shots but from what i do have you can see how the flex. As for actual numbers i think mine actually came out round 10" lift, and i based that of the numbers from my rear suspension. I'm running 4" lift 56's out back with the diy4x shackle flip and 6" shackles along with a 1.5" zero rate... and my front needed a zero rate up front to even things out a bit. Anyways on to the poser shots

Stock 52's are at best, 18 years old, and tired. They also don't provide the lift I'd want. Believe it or not, I was one of the first people on here to do a 52" swap, and while it worked good for the truggy, they were waaaaay to soft to be streetable.

Just cause I like posting pics too, here's the old ride just after one of the river crossings on Fordyce-

Notice the Glock in my buddies right hand...We had just hopped out to shoot at some ground squirrels...A .40 hydra-shock hollow point doesn't mess around on the squirrels. :haha::haha::eek1:

God damn, that's a huge bitch! :eek1:

Nice though, glad to see that you did it right. ;)

thanks, its still a work in progress, and i think i'm going to make a strick mud truck... I'm working on converting my 4runner in to a dd/crawler but my main priority is getting the k5 where i want it(4wd and cage).

Hope your 406 puts out some serious numbers.... you'll need it to turn those 44's in the mud. And a 231/300 doubler, that's a bit of an odd combo. What's a 231 come out of?

Build thread for your rig?

dont wanna clog up your thread, but the 406 puts up some decent numbers, but not enough. It will be going into my 4runner, and i'm pulling a 468 outta a buddies retired drag camaro.. it is said to have around 730 hp, so the intensions are to use that as a base for the blazer. the 231/300 was going to go into the blazer but when i decided to dedicate it to mud,i sold it and i have been rebuilding a 205 and thinking about doubling it up with a 203. I'm also thinking about throwing the 60/14 under my runner, and throwing rockwells and 49's under the k5, and keep it the same height, we will see though.

Maybe a build thread in the future, but it takes me too long to do a build thread cuz i cant swing funds for both school and projects, lol..
