2 Caliper Choices w/e-brakes? for 14BFF Disc Brake Kit

Per a conversation we had a while back, the main reason people don't like the ebrake calipers is because they are not setting them up and using them properly.

I agree. I have been using the TSM large GM calipers for a couple of years now. Although the e-brake is not as strong as the new truck parking brakes, it does work. I had to rely on them after ripping off a front brake line. Made a 30+ mile trip back home with nothing but those calipers parking brakes...

Finally! This is the thead I have been looking for!

Sorry, I've been searching for a while and finally found what I am looking for.

I didn't realize that the Caddy calipers already come with e-brake arms pre-attached. I thought you had to buy them separately, and them GM disconinued that part.

So just one question though, does the stock e-brake cables reach? Are they long enough?

When you buy the caddy eldo calipers they DO NOT come with the levers on them.

My 89 blazer e-cables were long enough to make work with the eldo calipers but not sure about the earlier years with equal length cables on each side.

I am currently looking to purchase the 14BoltFF disc brake conversion kit. I know the calipers you use are 76-78 Eldorado w/parking brake. I have heard people do not like the fact that the e brake cable runs below the axle. Kert from DIY4x.com makes a Disc Brake Kit with 8 holes to move the calipers and e-brake cable up. I also found that TSM offers a Caddy caliper with the ebrake cable in a different position. Are they that much different? TSM named these caliper Large GM rear calipers and does not mention what vehicle they were used on and that are only available from TSM INC. for $320 a piar! :eek1: Does anyone have any input on useing these calipers or have a GM part number? I heard they come of a Caddy Fleetwood and Seville, are they worth the coin? let me know guys. Here are some pictures for you to compare.

Hey AZ,

Name's Manny. I got my 14BFF Disc set-up from Blackwidowperformance. The calipers are like the bottom set you display. Here are some pics for you:

The calipers are bigger than the pictures make you think. The are of great quality and I would highly recommend the e-brake kit#3 from Blackwidow. It's a complete bolt in kit. Even comes with braided brake lines. Customer service is good too!

This axle is awaiting installation, and I have all the necessary knowledge to make sure they work properly; hydraulically and mechanically. Keep an eye out for my post: Manny's '83 K10 in the garage. You'll see the update listed. As far as part numbers go, I'll have to check. Hope this helps.

Son of a bitch!

I thought I had this solved...

Anyway, since GM discontinued the part, where did other people get them from? Maybe PN#s from Carquest or Autozone (the only 2 parts stores near me). Or soemwhere to order online?

I've talked about what i did in several other posts but i'll explain it here again for you.

I used caddy Fleetwood and Seville levers, brackets and springs on my Eldo calipers. The Eldo calipers had to be slightly modified by drilling and tapping a hole for the bracket. I used one bracket from a Fleetwood and one from a Seville because of how those calipers mount on those cars. One caliper mounts on the forward side with the cable coming in from the rear and the other mounts on the rearward side with the cable coming in from the front so as you can imagine i had to use one bracket from each car. The Fleetwood and Seville are opposite of each other in the caliper mounting so this is why one bracket from each car is needed.

What years are the arms, brackets, and springs from?

Which side is the fleetwood, and which is the Seville side?

I don't remember what years or which side from which car but it will be obvious when you see them.

I was at PNP yesterday for the half off sale and was looking for more since i know they're a hot item around here.

Excellent reference thread    !!

I haven't put them on yet, but I got the levers and springs from ebay, I think it was

hardoffroad, he sells them with the caliper brackets, but i asked him if he would sell just the e brake brackets and springs, i don't remember how much, but I think it was like $25 shipped to my door.

I don't know about the 14 bolt, but the 12 bolt brackets I got from black widow use eldorado calipers from 79-85 and one of them came with the bracket for the ebrake. I got the others from the wrecking yard. These levers also mount above the axle. Maybe the levers from that year might work? TSM has the same calipers as well for 1/2 ton. But like I said, 14b might be very different.
