About 5 months ago I replaced my starter in my Blazer . As time went on it started getting harder to turn over . During a cold snap it started really slowing down and just stayed on after letting go of the key . Well it started smoking and took me awhile to disconnect the batteries . It was fried so I took it back to Napa and got another starter and at first it worked great and now it's slowing down as well . I have new batteries , a new alt. and new positive cable to the starter . I hate to pull it and get the same starter and keep doing this till I find a good one . Am I just unlucky or is there a Napa starter better than the other ???

It's probably the supplier NAPA uses for rebuilds that is the problem more than NAPA itself. I'd bug the parts guys about it and make them test any new starters they are about to hand you as a replacement.

Damn, that sucks, but it happens. When I used to work at the neighborhood NAPA back in the day, we tested every starter, alternator and battery that we put on the shelf. We'd write our initials and date tested on the box, so when we handed it out to a customer, we knew it was good. It took some extra time, but worth it in the long run.

I called Napa and got a hold of someone I use all the time and she said they switched suppliers . They were using rayloc and I will see what they switched too . They never offer to test them and guess they should ?

Problem with mine was that they test fine and worked fine. They just would not last longer than a week.
