Hey guys, I do 4x4ing trail, some climbing. Would you suggest 2 or 4" lift, currently have 33" mud tires

4" and up tend to require c/v rear drive shaft .

So if nothing crazy i would do 2" lift and have fun .

Could do 1" zero rates on the 2" and make it 3" and do body mounts and 1" body lift and get 4" total this way .

Aesthetically with 33" tires, 2" lift is better. At stock height you might only have 2" of uptravel before riding the bumpstops, so you need some lift for good performance. With 33" and 2", you need to trim a little to fit, but jumping to 4" probably needs driveshaft lengthening, possibly a C/V driveshaft conversion and shimming of the pinions for angle. So overall, 2" is a much simpler conversion, and compared to modern trucks, it still looks kind of classic and original.

Just be warned and search threads here that most lift kits for squares suck and ride terrible. Do it once and do it right!

BDS and TUFF COUNTRY tend to be the top 2 off the shelf lift kits for best ride .

ROUGH COUNTRY tends to be the stiffest ride and there the cheepest for a few reasons .

Full super ride quality then call OFFROAD DESIGN and order there custom made to order springs .

I have the tuff country Ez rides 3” with 1 “ zero rate, stocks in rear with ORD shackle flip, after adding Diy4x gauntlets a winch and full size spare, my rears are way too soft and the fronts are just a little too soft.

Hoping to have my ORD custom springs in the next few weeks, just received all of the hardware, staying at 4”. As others have said, I ended up with a cv rear shaft and decided to swap to a 241 and install a SYE and crossover steering and….

You can convince yourself you need all kind of stuff you probably don’t. Its like a damn fever. But when I started I had a general idea I was gonna do all that. Mainly because of spending time here! Looking at all of the eye candy and reading of 4x4 adventures. It’s worse than going to the grocery store on an empty stomach I tell ya.

I went with 3 inch springs on the front (Tuff Country) and a 4 inch shackle flip on the back to compensate for weight of the top. It sits level and looks good on 33s. As others have stated, I did have to use a CV driveshaft and shims to get the angle I wanted. I feel like it's a good compromise. Do I need it? Probably not, but it's what I wanted.

I recommend a 1" body lift, and a factory three pack of front springs. Possibly zero rates.
