i'm swapping in a 465/205 in my burb. the trannie came out of a 77 3/4 ton and i noticed it had the 2 piece driveline with the carier bearing deal. do i really need this or can i get a one peice unit made up? i'm sure i can go back and get the whole set up off the guy. just want to know if its worth it. it will have 6" lift when its all said and done too...

Yes you can use a one piece. If you do use that two piece one, make sure its in good condition, the splines wear out on that shaft. I had the same option as you when I took a 465/205 out of a 70's truck, I replaced all the u joints and that carrier bearing, but it still had vibrations b/c the worn splines. I had a 1 piece made up and it smooth as could be.

My non slip factory 465/205 burb has a 2 piece i just pulled the hydro stuff of a 465/208 slip yoke burb and it was a one piece.

1. When i did mine (My build) they said they dont like going that long on a one piece. Not good for high speed they like to desinegrat in the middle. Direct from H.A.D
2. with a 2 piece you have a better break over angle with out hitting the driveshaft.
i would go get all the stuff will be cheaper and easier in the long run

When I did mine back when my wheel base was 131" my shop told me I was getting pretty close of needing a 2 piece (i cant remember the length of the shaft then) But I ran it stock for a while, then added a 7-8" lift (same shaft) no problems at all going down the highway on long trip doing 75mph.

But like he said if you already have the two piece for free, you should try it and see how it does.

I hear ya they told me they could do it but it was at that length like they told you.
i think it depends also if you have a slip yoke or not and tcase length.
the slip shortens the d shaft a couple inches.

On my build i stretched the wheelbase 5 inches im now at 135 1/2
