My buddy has a 86 K20 and it needs a motor, so it is supposed to be a 1 piece rear main seal. What has to be done to use a gm crate motor with a two piece rear main?

Thanks

Trey

All you need is the proper flywheel/flexplate , same tooth count as his original , just needs to bolt on to an older motor . GM sells these . You can bolt all his original accessories and brackets onto a one piece main motor . Piece of cake , its a small block /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif

One more question. Does anybody know or can somebody tell me any east way to check how many teeth are on the flexplate? Don't say count them, I am looking for an easier way than that, the motor is still in the truck.

Thanks

Trey

Most likely its a 168 tooth.

A 14" flexplate is 168 tooth
A 12.75" flexplate is 153 tooth.

If your buddy has a "stock" starter. Its pretty easy to tell.
A 14" will have a diagonal "staggered" bolt pattern.
A 12.75" will have a parallel bolt pattern.
