Usually offsetting a truck. Bed to the long side. So no help on the doors. A light car sure. I had both sets for my old lift. The Jimmy had to have symmetrical because the trailing arms blocked the frame.

Mine lift is set up pretty close to the walls and I dont really have issue. I have plenty of room front and back...
Went to my concrete guys barn today he has his symmetrical lift 13' from the door and the column 3' from the wall and with his '12 CCLB Duramax he can walk around the back good, not enough to drop the tailgate though. I think I'll do the same.
Agreed--especially if you have an 7.5 or 8 foot plow on the truck..
My 10 foot overhead door has had the side jamb trim torn off more than once when I had to back the truck in with the plow on,to garage it before a storm..--also smashed the side mirrors more than once too--not much room for error!..

I've got 3.5' between lift post and workbench and I have no complaints. I would do the widest door that makes sense. Mine is 18' and sometimes I wish it was wider - you will be amazed at how quickly the shop fills up making that wider door very important.
Mines 13' 6" off the door a extended cab with a 8' bed clears with room to spare.
Id look at getting a high lift garage door. So you can have the door open and still have the truck on the lift.
