Anyone running one of these in their rig? I'm looking at a K5 with a 383 stroker and a 2 speed powerglide and I'm curious if it's worth it.

I didn't even know you could mate a powerslide up to a transfer case.... great in a balls to the wall track car, but I can't imagine it being effective in a 4 x 4.....

I have heard of some guys running them in comp buggies but don't know about a trail rig.

i've been looking for a powerglide w/removable tail housing, they made them, but not many, all i've seen have 1 piece case, but i've seen pics of 1 w/removable tail housing but i can't find 1. i want to try 1 in my comp bog truck.

If it's cheap i would buy it. Then sell it to someone who could better use it

Hmm a PG in a heavy underpowered truck is useless. they work well in Very high powered lightweight vehicals that really dont need to have a tight powerband. But to each his own :D

Is it a factory PG, just wondering as there are a few aftermarket co.'s making PG cases, that are killer pieces for drag racers.

Just to be an ass why does everyone say a "2 speed Powerglide" aren't all Powerglides 2 speed?

Dik

There used to be a kit from Fairbanks that converted the Powerglide to a 4 speed auto trans. There was 1st and 2nd gear in one range then 3rd and 4th in the other. I used to have one of these transmissions before.

not ALL are, the 1's I've found are 1 piece case..and a few have 2 big holes in the bellhousing, i was told if they have the holes its from behind a 6 banger :dunno:

Actually, some Powerglides have 4 large holes in the bellhousing and if you ever get a chance to see one again you'll notice that there are no cooler lines as those are air cooled Powerglides and they shifted WAY better than the ones with cooler lines. The torque convertor is also different as they have fins on the outside to help move air through the large holes in the bellhousing.

to my knowledge the only trans that is one peice is the t200 metric.

the powerglide did come with a removable bellhousing in certain applications, but the tailshaft extension housing even unbolt from those as well.
