So any info on it would be great

Thanks

Tom

Don't know about the thread but to most it seems to be more work and hassle than it's worth:( If you have the two of them side by side it shouldn't be too hard to figure it out though.

I'm going to try it.

I'm just going to use the heavy duty parts from diy4x to swap. I would like know of any other obsticals. Does the Steering box remain in the same place?

i have a 4wd frame, but it's rotted on one side, in the rear, and i could get a mint 2wd frame, and i donno, should i try it? i have everything besides a cab...

Gona see what I can remember here.

No spring mounts in teh front for the leaf springs. Frame is also wider at the shackle eye hanger so some trimming will be required.

No t case crossmember.

Front hangers for rear springs are shorter on the 2wd so your lift won't work out the same. Bolt pattern is also different from 2wd to 4wd on this hanger so just swapping is less than a bolt on. Can be made to work or make up the hieght another way.

Steering box is in the same location. For your conversion, you got the 2wd box for crossover. Get the 1104 pitman or find the Ford van piece and go.

All the 2wd front suspension will have to come out. Some of this is tied into the engine crossmember if memory serves.

Also another crossmember up front that is different but I don't believe it causes any problems. In fron of the engine cross.

That's all I can remember and i'm dead tired.

2wd suspension drops off in one piece, just bolt-off shocks, swaybar brackets, pitman arm and idler arm.

Front crossmember is different in 4wd, and it does not bolt to 2wd frame. 2wd frame is curved differently on a drivers side where crossmember is mounted. I tried to make one fit but after hour of tinkering I decided to make one-off custom piece that serves also as a winch mount.

Tom, I just looked DIY4X site, and from Kert you could get basicly all the parts to make conversion; engine crossmember, leafspring mounts, shakcle flip... ;)

Or you can do it like I'm doing, check my sig :)

Thats the biggest obstacle I see. Would you happen to know how much wider it is?

It's not huge. Maybe 1/4" give or take. Just a smidge off the lower flange and you'll be good to go.

I could even just make the front hangers wider.

I think I'm going to make mine. I would prefer yours but can't swing the 165. I'm going to get your shackle hangers and shackles though.
