Tommy has just acquired a 1983 C-10 long bed standard cab pick up from grandpa. Granted he's only coming up on 14 in June, so yeah, a 2 year project to put things back together correctly and get it back in shape as his first vehicle.

My plan to help him with this, is to have HIM do most of the work as I watch at his side and teach him. It's needs a new interior, I'll most likely tackle the dash and wiring, but he'll be there to help, watch and learn.

More to come in the next few days. :D

His first task, replacing the battery so it'd stay running and take a charge.

It's home. One happy boy there. He's out cleaning out the interior, the best he can and giving it a bath.

Sweet:waytogo: I'll follow for sure. subscribed:D

Well, I'm not his "dad" I am his father figure currently. His dad passed away back in 2010. Him and his sister Elora, both are great kids.

He washed it, cleaned out the interior, cleaned out the bed. I took the buffer and some polish to a small section of the front fender and door, is definitely an interesting color that we may keep, update it a bit though, change the silver center section to a champagne type color. The red is a dark maroon with metallic flake in it, small flake, not like 70's speed boat paint.

Trying to decide if I want to install a 5.3 or stick with the older platform and just install TPI on it.

Here he is, a clean in fool. :D

Either way props I had a great father figure I met and knew for 10 yrs and he passed away out of blue. Great guy and knew old cars not to mention ASE master tech was always bonus.

That is so cool man.

That right there is something that will take a kid at a very "peer pressure" age, and make him follow the better path.

Maybe make him a part of your posts here, so he can read and see the comments and ideas from others.

Congrats, post lots of pics. This is badass :thumb:

Hijack on

I got my first truck at 14, a 85 swb C10. Restored it mainly by myself (took 5 years) with a lot of guidance from my dad. I wouldn't have it any other way, I learned so much from that truck and I was able to move on and raise my standards on the blazer. It kept me out of a lot of trouble. You're a good man for helping him [emoji122]

Only reason I didn't get arrested in high school was wheeling and building cars, kept me out of a ton of trouble and alive. Keep up the work

LOL, best thing you can do. Work a little patch, show him what it can look like and tell him to match the rest!

Good for you helping him on the path.

After going through some pictures with him, I think we/HE has decided to go with a look very similar to this. Not quite as low, but it will be dropped a big for a sporty look. May make the red portion a touch brighter on the red side as well. But he likes the look.:D

Get some meguiars M105 compound on a wool pad and watch it work, It will cut the oxidation pretty fast. There are tons of other great compounds on the market from people like Chemical guys etc but the meguiars is easier to get.
