i just scored a dana 60 and a 14bff for 200 bills /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif, but they came from a dually, i have a set of hummer rims, i know the front will be ok but what should i do about the rear so the wheels dont stick in?

Get a Dana 70.

anyone have a pic of what a d70 looks like so when i go to the junk yard i know what it looks like so the morons there dont sell me the wrong one?

It has the same cover as a Dana 60 and has "70" cast into the pumpkin and comes out of dually chevy trucks.

A Dana 60 for $200.00 ?? Deal of a lifetime. I'd find a 14 bolt FF from a 3/4 ton with ( matchinng gears to your D60, or regear either or to the desired gears) , and get the outers from a SRW D60. Well, that's just what I'd do. Dana 60 for $200.00, hell of a find. /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

Fixed it for you.

Sell the 14b DRW for $50+, and then snag a 14b F/F SRW.... a Detroit for it isn't but $350 if you have an open carrier.

I paid $750 (plus $250 shipping) for a rusted up D60 front in need of a complete overhaul. Man I'm jealous…

[/ QUOTE ]i paid $800 for a DRW 60, plus $100 in gas to go get it. it came with a C&C K30 attached to it, and i still havent pulled the cover to check on condition...

$150 for a COMPLETE
(drive flanges, tierod, calipers & rotors for cores, hell even 2 rusty ass shocks /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif )
Dodge SRW front D60 that needs rebuilt.

I am pretty sure this has come up before, and there are a few guys who got it for disgustingly cheap, like $40 or something.

Is this all from a cab&Chassis dually or from a pickup dually? The C&C rears were narrow and the truck rear axles were around normal width..... If you have one that is normal width, run spacers... Or find a 14ff from a 1 tom van and it will bring you closer to your needed width, but will probably still need small spacers. I'd stick with the 14ff over the 70 since they are easier to find, a detroit is cheaper for the 14 and they are about the same strength...

i dont know what c&c is but theyre out of a 79 dually pickup that had a dump body on it, i also got a mint cab out of the deal /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif, also when u guys say get a ff out of a van do u mean like a work van or a cube van? what kind of van???

C&C = Cab and chassis. If it was a dump truck, it may be a narrower c&c axle.... Is the outer tire in line witht he side of the cab or does it stick out farther like a dually pickup with the flared bed?

And with the van, I am talking a normal work/cargo van..... The rear axles in them are 1.5" wider per side than a nromal truck axle. Also, a rear axle out of a newer body style truck(89/90+) with be wider also.....

i think the rear is narrow, so i should just sell that axle and go find one from a van?, also whats a way to find out what gear ratio it has?, id check the glove box but its a 79 frame with a 85 cab

A 14ff from a regular truck would work too, but the vans rears are wider, but harder to come by.... If you get a rear froma 3/4 p/u or suburban, you wont need to change the location of the spring perches.

To find out what ratio you need, pull the cover off of your D60. Rotate the ring gear and look for a stamping on it.. Should read somehting like 41 10 along with a serial number and such. 41 10 would be 4.10's.... Thats the best way to find out...

but if i get a regular 14bff from a truck or burb im gona have to run some big ass spacers, i really dont feel safe running spacers

BTW, "41 10" is the number of teeth on the ring, followed by the number of teeth on the pinion. So, to get gear ratio, you do the math... 41/10 = 4.10

[/ QUOTE ]1.5" per side isn't bad, just retorque them a few time, then every time the tire is off and you should be okay.

ok im gona go junk yard hunting this weekend and maybe i can work out a deal with the owner /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif, i got a ff, sf, 6 lug 10b, and an 8 lug 10b, 700r4/208, maybe we can trade /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif, thanks for all the help /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif
