Ok, Family tahoe, 2001 5.3L 4x4. 150k on the clock

5 link coil sprung rear end, IFS front.

Rides like crap, tire pressure is correct.

Decent monroe shocks in the last 5k.

Always had a weird clunk from rear end, i always assumed it was a bad link end of some sort.

What wears out first on these? Any experience in overhauling the link ends? I'm pretty sure they are just rubber bushings. Anything else i should consider?

Most of the crappy ride is from the rear, the front feels pretty tight still. Not interested in doing control arm bushings, but would consider ball joints if needed (havent' had a chance to check it out yet).

Anyone done this stuff before?

Overall goal is to get some of the original ride quality back. Its an LT, and used to ride pretty smooth. Now you feel like you're in the back of a school bus when you sit in the 2nd row seats.

Thanks!

Makes me wonder if the bushings you mentioned have hardened up perhaps?

Possibly. Its my mom's truck, doesn't get driven hard at all. Maintenance besides the most basic has been pretty neglected, just did the 100k service at 150k today :doah:

Its towed some, but not much. Maybe a 500mi/year, and its only our 4000lb boat.

I have been searching for replacement rear control arms, or trac bars, or bushings, and all i've found are upgrade poly bushings from energy. Don't think we want to put anything but stock bushings in there, as we probably won't have it more than a few more years.
