When I moved to N.C. I wanted a boat and had always loved West Coast styled boats (go fast boats). So I found a boat in AZ that I had a friend check out, he gave me the thumbs up on the condition. I negotiated over the phone and eventually purchased the boat. This boat was less expensive than most new cars and a lot cheaper than a new boat.

the boat is almost all mechanical and very easy to work on with large engine hatch. The motor is a Mercury 496 Magnum Chevy Big Big Block. The styling is definitely west coast, but I wanted something different and have always loved the lines of these boats. It definitely gets some looks on Lake Norman in N.C. below are pics on the trailer and when it was dropped off at the house. So it was interesting they actually loaded the boat trailer on the big rig trailer.

Great engine, they make a HO version also. Thought about a blower, but they need some bottom end work or they won’t hold up to a blower unless you really baby them..

His were set up for forced induction when the boat was built. PO never did it. He could not resist.

Im guessing he was close to a 1000 Ponies with that setup. My boat is very light for the power it has now, 70 on the water feels like a 125 in a car. Love to see a photo of those engines if you have one?

If I remember right, his were in a 35 footer. Thing used to literarily fly. He got tired of puting $8 a gallon fuel in it twice a day. I will ask for pictures when I talk to him.

What's the point of the throttle change?
(< non boat guy)
last boat my family had (open bow 427 jet, I guess west coast lol)
New owners are enjoying :D

Before the dash I added a modern twin stick throttle.

Looks great! How do you like the twin stick setup? Have considered that swap on my Donzi.

Do you still have that old teleflex throttle setup? Would be interested in buying it off you for spare parts....parts are hard to come by. Let me know.

Let me search the garage and get back to you..

It separates the drive and reverse gear from the main throttle which gives you more control at slow speeds.

I can attest to that.
I got up to 85mph in my jet drive and I can't imagine how that boat did 106 mph in 1970.
And I have been up to 160 mph in a car no sweat

This is the kinds boat I would love to have. My wife grew up going to Lake Powell and we have several others near us. I see a boat in our future at some point.
