My daily driver is a 2002 silverado 4x4. It has around 82k miles on it. I have heard that the 5.3 motors in these trucks tend to knock when you start them up especially in the cold and I have heard this before give it a min to heat up and it goes away.
The sound I here is something different. It is a loud clicking noise and it does not go away until the truck is at normal temp not just warm. It almost sounds like the valves clicking but it is alot louder and unlike the valves this noise goes away after a while. It takes a good 5 to 10 mins for it to go away.
What can this be ?
