2003 2500hd transfer case question.

My father has a 03 Chevy Silverado 2500hd 4x4 and I'm pretty sure the t case is on it's way out . My question is , what case is it? The truck has the pushbutton 4x4 system ( 2 high , 4 high, neutral and 4 low), it is a automatic trans, not an allison so I am assuming it's a 4L80?

I found a used case for a decent price from what sounds to be the same truck, but I am not sure how many different t cases or versions GM used in that era?

what makes you think its the case? whats it doing?

there are a lot of other things that can cause you to have t-case problems with the push button set up that has nothing to do with the actual mechanical parts of the t-case.

It sounds like someone dumped a 1/2 pound of bb's in it I checked into the known problems with the dash switch and the enoder motor sensor and unfortunately the horrible grinding/ scraping / ready to explode noises it's making are internal.

is it leaking?? possibly pump rub???

Never leaked, may have been caused by a pump issue though.

My father is one of those people who will "run em till they stop", I'm sure it has been making a noise for a while but he never bothered to mention it untill it became really bad. Oh......Did I mention that the truck has 272,653 miles on it 6.0l engine and it is a 4L80E trans.

I did however determine that it's the NP263HD case
