2003 Cummins

OK I'm pretty new at this diesel thing. My GMC is the first one I've ever owned. I have come across a guy selling a 2003 cummins, trannie and t-case for less than four grand. His truck was rolled so he's selling the drivetrain to cover the rest of the payoff for the truck. I'm gonna jump on it. The question now is how do I get this engine into my 87 CrewCab? I already accept that I'm gonna have to go with a 3" body lift. I have no real idea from there. My entire family is very talented at fabrication and mechanics so this should be no major problem. Any advice is more than welcome.

Since it is a 2003, remember you are going to need the computer as well as most of the harness to do this.

A little searching on the site should give you some names of people who have done this type of swap, although I believe most have used the 12 valve engine.
