2003 Diesel Speedometer Pegged ???

Since I can only post here ,here goes...

My friends 03 diesel 4X4 has a problem with the speedometer
It will work OK for a while , then it jumps up to 180 K in park , and goes over 200 K while driving down the road
This happens off and on for no apparent reason , everything else works properly.
Does anyone out there know what would cause this to happen?
This is a Chev. diesel , automatic (I don't know what engine))

Any info. would be greatly appreciated

It is an electrical issue. Get it fixed before the warrenty is up

Tell your freind to join dieselplace.com and do a qick search there.

The long and short is that GM is havening a problem with these. It is probably the instrument cluster, they will replace the entire cluster. The kicker is that the dealer may keep the truck for several weeks as they determine that the Speedo. being wrong is a safety issue. The clusters might still be on back order which is why the dealer would have to keep the vehicle. They will give out a loner vehicle.
