2004 K2500 Speedo Question

This speedometer head is reading 8MPH at rest and once the wheels turn it goes to 100MPH.

Odometer is correct.

I scanned it and the odometer is correct, so I assume that it's the head unit.... right?

Any ideas or comments will be appreciated.

My guess would be the stepper motor for the gage has gone bad.

If your good with a soldering gun you can fix it your self for cheep.

Google it for a bit...common problem for GM clusters in those years. I had my daughters 03 Trailblazer`s cluster done by some dude that replaces all the steppers in the cluster at your home. Wasn`t super cheap 225.00 Canadian. But I didn`t touch it, and it works great now.

Yeah - you can get a six motor 'kit' with solder sucker and some cute blue LEDs for the cluster - so since I've had some printed circuit board experience I'll go for it.
